Looking For The Best Xbox Live Headset
« on: December 16, 2004, 04:04:00 PM »

Hi,

Usually PC headsets have 2 sockets - one for sound and one for mic. Moreover, the jacks on pc headsets are too big to fit into the communicator slot.

therefore you will either require a adapter (sound/mic >>> one smaller socket) Alternatively, you can buy a specialised replacement xbox live headset - there are some around on eBay for £5 ~ $10.

You could also use one of those cheap handsfree kits that come with your mobile phone - they have the same connection as the official xbox live headset. so just plug one of those into your communicator.

Hope this helps.

The Halo2 headsets work nicely and are comfortable too.

I use the Hip Gear headset. Its okay, hasn't broken and gives clear reception so I'm satisfied.

i dont mind the one you get with the live kit, that damn clip on piece does seem to break easy ive been through 3 in 2 years but ive tried 3 different cell phone head sets and there functionallity vary, either its fine for me but not others in the room or vise versa, peeps complain its either to loud or they cant hear,or i cant hear to well no matter where the volume is set at. they are cheap though they come with the cell phone for free, i havent tried the halo one yet but over all for you and others playing the original seems to be the best but thats just my opinion, im not gonna spend 100.00 on 10 different head sets just to see which is the best for everyone else including myself, id rather buy another xbox to mod, not that i care what others on live say but when you need to comunicate in a game but you get muted by peeps cause your headset disrupts others i just doesnt help, kinda sucks though i have to cats and they have hidden the foam piece that goes on the end of the original, there 3 floating around the apartment, they usually pop up every 2 months or so but they keep taking them and hiding them again anyway, i have to put the mic away at the end of every night, if i forget once its gone by morning

madkats, 5 dollar mic. works really well and you dont even realize its in your ear.
i recommend taping with electrical tape where the cord goes into the headset, as it can slide out.

***if and when they go bad, go buy a new one, throw the old one in the new box and return it.***

***=fictional setting.

ive only had to return one in the last year... a little crappy wiring, but for 5 bucks, damn good deal.

lol, not to mention, when i first got xbox live i got the MS "nasa" headset, and it broke the same day, so i returned it for a madkats not thinking i still needed the controller module part... then realized i reaturned the headset without the module in it!!!! lol, phuck bestbuy anyways.

I got the halo 2 one and its really good, however I was pretty pissed that I then had to go buy another cheap ass mic set just so I could get the communicator(plugs into the controll) as the halo 2 one doesnt come with one and for the price of it, it should have. So bascially it cost me like $70 for the headset plus another $25 for another older headset just to get the communicator. If you already have the communicator and $70ish isint alot of money for you, then I suggest get it.

another way to go is the madcatz LiveCon controller (if you dont have the comminucator dongle) it has one built right into the controller

and tot eh original poster: the point of the wireless headsets is for people who have wireless controllers with the memory card ports on the receiver
