I think them lies. If that was so then they would have used that many moons ago to ban people.  What if you send the Xbox for service? They would have to open the Xbox to fix it, if every employee new how to reset the switch i'm pretty sure it would have hit the net by now.

Of course they are going to say as soon as you open it up, your warranty is void. Everything is like that.  There is no way they could tell except for the stickers that cover the screws.

i can assure you there is not device currently in action on the xbox. from the 1.0 - 1.6b there is no device like this. This would have to be a case tamper switch which i assure you there isnt one. Either a your pulling our chain and lying. (Possible since your new) or M$ is feeding you a line (possible becasue they are M$) How ever my bet is on m$ mis/disinformation.

Now the X2....Yea I could picture one being on there

I believe there have been posts about maybe how MS can detect if you have ever used a modchip even if its not n when you use live. Not sure though.

Not saying that they do...but they could easily do something a little more advanced than the stickers...Hows this...If you remove your dvd assembley at all to access the board a carefully hidden switch becomes not grounded/disabled...now when you log onto "live" with this imaginary hidden switch disabled your banned!

I could make a switch of some kind to know if anyone has been inside my box if I wanted to!
Just imagine what they could do!

most liekly you got banned from Live the same way everyone gets banned from Live, by connecting with a hacked bios loaded (whether is throught eh MS dashboard, or a auto-logging in Live aware game)

there is nothing (other than the case stickers) that will indicate to MS or anyone else that your xbox has been opened, the MS reps are just saying that because thats what is says on the script they are reading, try asking them if the xbox plays burned cd-rs, the "official" statement is that the xbox dvd-rom will not read cd-r at all (in reference to burned music cds) and we all know the samsung does just that

There is your problem

should not have taken the 160 out, i didn't read your whole post but

Common theory:

You sign on live, your eeprom and hd get binded together, if you change one, all of them get banned

I subscribed to live only after the switch, wouldn't that mean that the orig hdd and the eeprom would be binded together. I'm trying to figure this one out. This is the main area I'm trying to learn more about, but the info is so scattered and full of half truths, and gossip

There is NOTHING on the motherboard or power supply board that has any physical connection to the mechanics of the case.  So no hidden tamper switch.  Period.

Let me repeat...  THERE IS NO SWITCH!

Bullshit alert activated!
