Question About Live Acct. Cancelling

If you have paid for a live subscription up front for a year and cancel it prior to it expiring do they refund any of the money?  I keep readin here on the forums about people cancelling their accts and I cant believe they would do that and piss their money away if refunds werent being issued....just curious.  Thanks.
