If you have the WGA54G gaming adapter, I feel your pain. It is really a piece of shit. I had the exact same problems when it first came out, but I thought it was due to the amount of wireless devices in the apartment building I was in. So, I went and purchased a wirless gaming adapter from MS (MN-740) and it has never failed me!!

Yesterday evening I decided to give my old WGA54G to a friend and we spent 3 hours trying to configure the damn thing. We upgraded the firmware on the gaming adapter (the newer firmware allows you to configure the adapter via the xbox instead of having to connect it to the computer or router first) as well as on the router (D-link). Still no luck. If we connect the Xbox to a port on the router, it works just fine. The signal strength of the gaming adapter was always low (even if the router and all other 2.4Ghz devices like cordless phones, etc. were turned off) even though the router was in the same room and it would switch from Infrastructure mode to Ad-hoc mode on a whim.

Anyway, try upgrading the firmware if you haven't already. Maybe that will help. Otherwise, sell it on e-bay and buy the MS gaming adapter instead. It's solid as a rock.

wink.gif

i've decided to take your advice and return the linksys router and game adapter because too be honest its just really p**sing me off!

you having any more luck with the one you gave to your mate?

i have been looking for that MS 740 adapter but thats really hard to get hold of you know, must be a popular one. i'm from the U.K and they don't seem to sell or have it on any site sad.gif

if i do manage to get hold of one could you recommend a router to go with it?

in the end, i might even just get a long ethernet cable and go for a direct connection, would be a lot of work because its quite a distance from my pc to the xbox, but oh well.... im running out of ideas.

would it be better to connect the cable to the pc direct or through a router? if i was going to go for the direct route.

sorry about all the questions, but if you could let me know what you think i would really appreciate it, any advice you got would be helpful

Oh yeah, by the way, your right that games adapter really was the biggest piece of shit going laugh.gif

I have a Linksys WRT54G and the M$ Wireless Network Adapter.

Are you broadcasting your SSID? My Xbox couldn't find the router unless it was broadcasting the SSID.

Otherwise, is there something in your house that could be causing interference? Cordless 2.4GHz phones are notorious for screwing with Wi-Fi networks.

I called the Xbox Live help number and they walked me through my connection and I was running wireless in no time.

There are plenty for sale on E-bay. http://search.ebay.c...QsatitleZmn-740

Yes, the MN-740 Xbox Gaming Adapter works very well with my WRT54G router. I've went through several firmware revisions on the router and have never encountered a problem with it.
