if someone created a mod, that worked like the maps in halo, and was loaded from the cache drives where available.....

it could still be made to load with the mod off! (it would need to be set up and the right files places with the mod on.....but after that, should still function, as the files are requested from the cache drive

like i say...i haven't seen it done, not sure it can be with any of the games out at teh moment....but who knows....maybe sometime, one game will be programmed right, so it can be modded this way!

Also, don't you think I've thought of using my XBL 2mo card?  I have a modded xbox and don't want to waste it on a halo2 update.  I'd prefer to get all 2 months out of it and not 2 hours.  I'd also prefer that they don't manipulate people into getting on live just to get a patch that should have been accounted for in the 3 years of development.  Thanks for all your insight...

Yes, it's very bad for people who break rules, and want to continue to break rules. I am glad MS is being firm with their new approach towards modded Xbox users on Xbox Live. I hope a system is figured out for no modded Xbox ever to use Xbox Live. It would greatly decrease topics here with the simple answer "You can not use a modified Xbox on Live"

i am banned too, and well guess what, SHIT HAPPENS, i dont cheat online and never plan to, but theretically since we have to turn off our chips before accessing live so we dont get banned imediatly and use an original game, in a sence its not using live with a modified system, i own 29 live enabled games at the moment and have gotten rid of at least 10 others, not to mention around 20 non live games that were traded after backing them up,yea im pissed about beeing banned, so F M$, i buy all my live games and rent to own on the rest, and 50% of the people if not more who are modded and say they buy everygame are full of shit, we knew this day woiulf come, if anything they see us getting closer to breaking there security, there prolley scared that someday we will be able to play our backups on live so now there taking strong mesures and putting a big dent on us with the banning, seriously there should be a poll on the front page if you were banned or not so we can see the total amount of peeps who have actually been banned, there a good chunk of peeps on these forums, would be nice to see the tally of how many have been banned 1000 5000 10000 ?

If it is the case that MS is activly scanning the hard disk drives in our XBOXs and gathering information about us then they are in clear violation of European privacy laws.

The software is licensed and is still the property of the publisher - and they can do with it what they like - but the XBOX is an device that is owned by the user.  So what MS is doing is the equivelent of breaking into you house at night - and accessing private information about you.  The fact that some people are ripping MS off is no excuse to resort to illegal activity.  MS has a right to protect itself but that does not extend to breaking the law.

Is there any way to prove that MS has scanned our hard disks and therefore broken the law?  Who else would like to stand up and start a class-action lawsuit??  This could be fun!

They have every right to ensure that you do not attach to their service with mod-chips swiched on as this violates the XBL service agreement; but if they are saying that just POSSESSING a modded box will get you banned then they are going out on a limb - and if they are secretly gathering information from you in order to determine if you own a modded box then they are clearly breaking the law.  No two ways about it.  Just agreeing to something does not supercede the law they cannot put things in their service agrrment that violate your privacy.

Even if MS is only Leasing you the XBOX they are still breaking the law - the Privacy Act in the UK is a big deal - for example; it is illegal for an employer to read an employee's email - even if the email was sent or received using a corporate email account on a company-owned PC inside a company office.   What is more they are not allowed to retain email once an employee leaves the company - that too is illegal.  MOST IMPORTANTLY an employer cannot get you to sign an agreement that opts-out of the law - which is essentially what MS is claiming to have done with their bogus service agreement.   On the issue of privacy MS is at the very least in a grey area.

If you feel so strongly about M$'s rights you might be pleased to know they have a very nice cubicle in Reading off the M4 waiting for you.  They even have XBOX kiosks in the lobby and the company restaurant is very nice - the cans of coke are free too!

Anyway the real solution to all of this is use Kai - I have a 1-year subscription to XBL and I have only used it once.  - I prefer Kai - I like the way i can see the whole user community across the estate of games and if you manage the games right then you should get no lag.  Go Kai!

it's legal for them to scan harddrives.... that TOS you hit "accept" for says they can... and you agreeing is a legally bound contract.... as for me... I haven't used xblive since  a2month trial last christmas... modded it since then... completely removed it and the new hardrive. Then i put in the factory hd that's been untouched (besides gamesaves from before i modded it) but nothing with software..... so its a complete factory brand new xbox pretty much.. and i go to log in to activate my two month trial that came with halo 2 (which really, really worse than halo one in many ways. especially the campaign being too short, and poor multiplayer maps.. and the health system use to be perfect... not anymore, well enough on that) and i was banned already... wtf? i bought my xbox brand new... only logged onto xbox live when i didn't even have the chip or any traces of a modchip installed... and no software on the hd...


now... how did that happen?

MS really pisses me off.  I modded my Xbox so I could have a bigger hard drive and play my backups so I wouldn't scratch the hell out of my originals. So, I got the lovely message about the "modified Xbox" when I tried to sign in to Live this morning to actually CANCEL my subscription.  And I couldn't care less.

I was cancelling my subscription because they arbitrarily decided when they wanted to charge my account. I'm disabled and live on a fixed income. Every penny is important and budgeted.  Xbox Live, for me, is charged monthly. They ALWAYS charge at the beginning of the month (ie: 1st - 5th). But last month, they decided to charge my account on the 22nd of November instead of after Dec 1st!! This threw my bank into an overdraught and now I owe fees when I get my disability benefits tomorrow direct deposited into my account.

So, I'm sick of them and their policies. Just because you modify your Xbox, they demonize you as some kind of thief. Great. I didn't play any backups on Xbox Live, nor did I even want to. I only played originals.  But, I was playing Xbox Live less and less as time goes on.

I have my PC if I really feel like playing a game online.  Personally, I don't see the draw in playing a game against some little twerp online who ONLY plays online and smacks you down repeatedly. Not exactly fun.  Before you jump on me, this is just MY opinion, ok? If I need an online fix, I'll just wait for the PC Halo 2 or play my Halo 1 online.... or even that gem of a game COUNTER STRIKE: SOURCE. :-)
