Marriage Theory - How To Not Get Banned.
« Reply #90 on: November 12, 2004, 06:05:00 AM »

I have tested pretty much every scenario mentioned.

I tried changing eeprom, and GT in the past, I was banned within 12 hrs.  Tried changing HD, and eeprom keeping GT, banned again in 12hrs.

On tuesday, I swapped my HD, formated with slayers, I flashed a new eeprom, and got a new gamer tag, and I am going on 2 days on XBL w/ no ban.

I have an XBOX v1.6 ( bought it 3 weeks ago) and I plugged in my network cable ( didnt touch the network settings, standard xbox IP is 192.168.2 or something and the dns and IP's are totally different from my home network wich is 10.0.0.155, using a router ) so i was curious and wanted to setup xbl with a 2month trial. so i went to the xbox live option and i got some setup wizard ( i stopped the "setup wizard" when i got to "payment method" screen) then 4 days after i went to see someone who mods consoles so I have a smartxx v2 chip installed and the guy also installed some other shite like evox and programs.

Would I get banned if i would finish the xbl wizard ( or am i already banned since i tried to setup xbl ) ??

And how do i turn off the smartxx chip ??

I know im just another newbie and dont know anything about modding whatsoever ( ppl talking about xbox live bios' blockers ( wut ? ), GT's :S ,dashboard's and whatever theyre talking about i dont know  blink.gif  )

I'm going to test as soon as I get on to a connection where Live works (school uses packetshapers on all the dorm connections, so XBL just times out)

I'm almost certain based on what I've read that I will be banned, since I went on with the stock HD once a while back (not sure how long ago, but I'm pretty sure it was on Live 2.0)

I will sniff the connection with Ethereal and post anything that is actually readable.

I read somewhere that the XBL traffic (except for voice communication) is encrypted.

Yea it supposedly is, but to establish an encrypted connection there is always some unencrypted handshaking, and maybe there are both ecrypted and unencrypted datastreams....

I don't know, but it can't hurt to try...
I never planned on using this box for Live after I bought the modchip, so I lose nothing  except the couple of bucks I could have got from an EEPROM sale by trying this.

although i believe the "marriage theory", it obviously doens't answer all situations.  why hasn't it been considered that they are "marrying" more than just the hdd and eeprom.  why not everything, or more select info in the eeprom.  as in maybe it runs a whole checklist.  all they need to do is scan the eeprom and compare it to a previous scan of the eeprom.  it could then compare the current hdd to the previos.  if that passes then move on to maybe dvd, or its lock key, or any of the other data on the eeprom.

Its quite easy to prove that's not the case as people can get online by just changing their EEPROM and HD

If they change their HD to another non-stock HD they do need to change their GamerTag too.

I think there are other reasons for getting banned, and we might not know all the reasons yet, but the most common (after going onto live with a modchip active!) is the EEPROM/HD marriage getting broken

i'm going to be trying this (new gt, new hdd, new eeprom) this weekend after all my bantering and questioning and hypothesizing.  2 questions left i guess, for now.

i'll use config magic to swap the eeprom.  and from what i've read this unlocks and locks the hdd with the code teamassembly.

after that, if i go into xenium os, and unlock and lock the drive again, does it change it from teamassembly back to the more complex numerical?

and i'm gonna get my eeprom from zodiak, i'm assuming no one has ever had problems with getting a duplicate eeprom from him.  i read a lot of feedback for him, but obviously cant read them all (over 1500+ i think  it was).

hope to have something positive to report.  i have a virgin box i've been using, but would really like to move it and at least mod it for xbmc for another room.

XOS2 sets the TEAMASSEMBLY password as well

This is so you actually have a chance of unlocking a harddrive if you don't have a backup of the eeprom and you fry the eeprom

I think his business would collapse if he was ever to have been found doing that

Look forwards to your results.

It will be best if you physically remove your Xenium (or whatever) every time you go on live so that if you do get banned you can discount the "LPC Scanning" theory

Gumba, I read your post and agree with you. then I heard that from 1.4 version to 1.6 version xbox's EEPROM has it's original HDD information. so How do you think about changing EEPROM and HDD at the same time on 1.4 version Xbox
do you think it works?

Yes, I do. In fact, there are multiple people who have done it successfully.

BUT if you have a flagged GamerTag, then you have to use a stock HD, or get a new GT.
