Marriage Theory - How To Not Get Banned.
« Reply #75 on: November 11, 2004, 05:25:00 PM »

okay, i have never played a game on live nor do i have a XBL account, etc (i have checked network connections/settings, on my xbox, where it tries to connect dont think that would count as XBL). I just got halo 2 and I have a modded xbox with bigger hd, i'm wondering if i turn off my switch, and go on live (free trial) for the first time, with the hd and eeprom, and are not planning to change either in the future, i shouldn't get banned right?

QUOTE (zblack @ Nov 12 2004, 02:11 AM)
Here's my info:

• purchased an Xbox in November of '03 and began using LIVE immediately
• spring (summer?) of '04 I installed an Xecuter Lite chip and all the popular apps and emulators
• replaced the HD with a small 30 gig a few weeks later, transferring all the data from original HD
• I've always used LIVE w/ the chip off of course (the bios prevent accidents automatically)
• I did try out the French PAL version a month ago, and I also forgot to delete any of these files
• purchased Halo 2 on Nov. 9th and played several hours on live
• played several hours on live on Nov. 10th, signing in and out many times - no problems
• played a few rounds this morning (Nov. 11th) before coming to work - still working fine

I feel as though I may have passed "the test", whatever that may be, but I also fear I may be delay-banned at any time.  sad.gif

Not sure what to do. My gut says to stay offline for a while and wait out the storm, but my Halo 2 cravings are beckoning.  dry.gif

According to what MS reps are saying though, your gamertag is not harmed in this ban. You can buy another Xbox and play on, so it looks to be all hardware and/or software related.

gah! i seriously need to know when you installed that hdd. like exact date if you can... or month... bah! PLEASE REMEMBER! X_x

edit: if you can't remember the exact date, can you remember if it was after may 20th? X_x

i tested that theory about swapping back in the previously scanned hd.  i did that, no go.  didnt tell me i was banned.  so i ran the network settings troubleshooter.  first, it didnt wanna detect the dns servers.  so i turned all my settings to auto.  so then it worked, kinda.  still said i couldnt connect.  so i ran the network settings again.  this time it told me it couldnt connect to xblive.  so i backed out of the troubleshooter, and went to live.  this time it told me my account was not active on that xbox.  so then i booted up my virgin box.  signed into xbox live, all is fine.

question is, can my gametag be used multiple xboxs if its in the hd.  thought i saw something before when recovering about being tied to that xbox.  i dont have a mem card to move it there.  so now i'm not sure if i can connect to the live or not with that box.  i guess i could use the 2 month pass and get a second tag.  try that out.

I got some time this weekend so I feel like experimenting.  Let me see if I have all the information straight though.

I have a 1.0 xbox, bought it the day it came out, along with live the day IT came out.  Barely ever used live.  In August I wanted to see if my Live account still worked so I connected and updated.  This is with everything stock so far, no modchip installed or anything.

I got my X3 as soon as they started shipping.  I installed it right away with a 160gb WD hard drive.    I have been on live a couple times with this new drive no problems.  The last time I was on live was probably 3 weeks ago, maybe 2, not sure.  I havent logged in since I picked up Halo 2, heck I havent even put Halo 2 in my box yet.

I am pretty sure that I have logged in close enough for MS to see that I had a stock drive (August) and an upgrade in Sept and Oct.  I really dont want to even try to logon with this setup.

So what I am thinking of doing is going ahead and buying a new EEPROM and putting in another new hard drive.  I have an extra 120 in my PC that I will just swap for the 160.  Now as long as I keep my C and E drives clean on this new drive and put in a new EEPROM, with your theory, I should  be safe correct?

I have extra stuff on my C: and E: partitions like evox.

is there a tutorial that I can follow to move stuff around so it looks like a normal xbox on C and E?

would i be safe if i did this??

I have a 1.6 xbox right now
playing halo 2 on live right now (xblive is installed)

do you think i will get banned by installing a x3, evox, but still using the stock hd?
All i am wanting to do with the chip, is to play my backups (offline of course) and watch some divx videos on xbox.

since the eeprom and hdd are married, my setup still uses my original rom and hdd, and i wont be banned, am i right? (does it matter if you install a mod/evo after you get live???)

thanks

So I haven't been banned yet. I played halo 2 on live for about 4 hours today. I'm going to try to get on a little later and see if i get banned.

My Specs:

Xbox 1.0
Maxtor 40 gig hd
Xecuter 2.2 lite
  • chip
Didn't get XBL until like 2 months after I moded my xbox.
    Original eprom
nothing other than m$ stuff on my c and e drives
    no hacked game saves
never played the leaked french version of halo2.
Did all of my mods about a year ago.

So I guess we'll see if the theory is correct or not.

Correct,

although, it could be they've already flagged your gamertag because they've actually already banned you, its just you haven't logged in to get the bad news.

So, if  you get banned with a new eeprom and HD, its because your gamertag was pre-flagged and you didn't get a new tag.

As long as you don't have any soft-mod/exploits, and your xboxdash.xbe is actually the MS Dash, and you don't have any cheats and stuff installed, you should be fine.

There are plenty of people with 'dirty' HDs who have not been banned.

I think you will be fine, as long as you don't upgrade the HD.

If you upgrade the HD, you will need to replace the EEPROM too

Ok- time for process of elimination:
What happens to an XBOX when it's been modded?
We'll take mine for example?
Version 1.0
xecuter 2.2 pro. As far as physics go, as long as the chip is disabled, there is no way it could be detected, so this hardware change is a moot point.
120Gb western digital. Assuming software is as stock, there is a new physical hardware device, and different serial # for HDD. That is change #1
HDD  C:/ partition changes with installation of new dashboard(EVOX, AVALAUNCH) folders man include skins, exox.ini ect. That is change #2.
Addition of extra partitions on HDD, such as F and G partitions. that is change #3.
Installation of homebrew apps. Change #4.
Installation, and patching of various retail games, that were not intended to run off the HDD. Change # 5.
Almost everyone must know by now, that homebrew apps, make subtle changes in the E partition. We know this, and a good example would be for people who have crashed XBMC and have had to delete the 0face8 folder to reset XBMC to run it. Another very obvious example, is many homebrew apps create "gamesaves" for some reason in the XBOX dash under the memory tab. that is change #5
I think that everyone will agree, that these are the most common and basic changes that occur to an XBOX once it's modded, so I believe, whatever M$ is scanning for, is in those changes, thus making it possible to eliminate the majority of modders, or rather modded XBOX's. So what WE are trying to find out is HERE. M$, cannot detect something unless it has changed.
As far as M$ trying to weed out cheaters, I think that is BS. their revenue is damaged by modders(or so THEY think), and not by cheaters so much.
I've had a modded XBOX for two years now, and logged on to XBOX live for the first time AFTER the release of HALO2. So far, no ban. I'll check in the morning to see if I'm still not banned. The only precautions that I've taken, is to delete any illegitimate "saves" from the E partition, such as boxplorer, and any other app saves. We'll see in the morning what happens.
cheers

AT THIS POINT...

since the bans started, now there is one primary theory, one primary solution, and many sub theories with little to no solution.

what we all need to know is

HOW MANY HAVE GOTTEN A NEW GAMERTAG, NEW EEPROM, AND NEW HDD

and has it been SUCCESSFULL or NOT.

i would add more-

HOW MANY OF YOU CHANGED GAMERTAG AND EPROM BUT NOT HDD(THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY BANNED)!!!!

AND I WILL REPEAT MY QUESTION FROM LAST MONTH (that was unanswered):

How do i change that fucking HDD?
I have one HDD from my old broken xbox.
What i need to do to put in in my new xbox? Just change it or need to do some additional work?

thx

You need to unlock it. If your old xbox is broken and unmodded, you may just have a paperweight on your hands.

I'm positive this 'mariage' theorie is spot on:
I've had my 1.0 xbox since day one in Europe. Modded it a few months after (matrix solderless), long before live was introduced to europe. Installed a 40GB maxtor at the same time. Later replaced it with a 120gb disk, still before live was available. All done manually, no slayers or whatever installdisk. Put all dash related stuff on c: and apps on e:. Everything basicly still is setup this way. (instead of evox i'm running ux now)

I got live the day it was released in europe. Prepared myself well (reading stuff here!) and allways was very carefull with what I did. At first I used the eject trick to switch between original en hacked bios, but I fairly quickly installed two dipswitches to be able to turn chip on / off. Removed access to msdash from evox/ux, so I only boot msdash when chip is switched off. Disabled autologin from the get go, also password protected live account. Flashed the liveblocking executer bios when it came available. Have had backups on f: and played them regulary. I never ever unplug the ethernetcable.

I did not cheat ever, played alot of live games, did not dl nor install the french halo leak, never used kai/xbc, did use backups on system link on occasion while the network was still connected to the internet (!), did dl and play sp and system link pal halo2 (have mine in preorder for Europe yet not received) and as to this very moment I haven't been banned yet / ever.

Just to share my exp...
