Marriage Theory - How To Not Get Banned.

Right, so, if you've had the same Hard Drive and everyhting since you've signed up for LIVE, everything is sweet?

I switch off my chip. Have the original Hard Drive that came with my XBOX (Packed with stuff on all partitions) and as of yet, I have not been banned.

I fear it's only a matter of time. Would be harsh.

So, Peole are connecting fine even with all the stuff on C and other partitions?

From what i've gathered your theory seems quite probable at the moment. One thing though... do we know that it is on your first connection to live that MS take your EEPROM and HD serial OR could it be just at a given time when MS started checking XBoxes (via a a live update maybe, or otherwise). Are there people who have made changes to EEPROM and hard drives since joining live but not not for some time and are not banned?

Personally.. I've changed my EEPROM twice since joining live though not since January (Had a large HD installed already). Last night i went on to live.. did the update... and not banned, though will have to see what happens in due course. Can't check till Sunday though.

I personally think that the if the marriaging was done it was done via an update earlier this year.

I was banned twice around Xmas last year and reflashed to a new EEPROM both times.  I haven't been banned since, and was not banned on the 9th.  I originally modded my xbox before going on live with an Xecuter2.1 lite+ and an 80 gig Seagate Barricuda.  There are alternate dashboards on my main hd partition, and I'm using a BIOS that does not allow Live access.

If the marriage was done when I signed on live last October then I should have been banned on the 9th (and still might be, we'll see) because my EEPROM and HD should not match up.

i m on with a fresh Eeprom now more than a week. I m using my old stock HDD that was used initially with my original Eeprom. Yes, when i was banned i had a different HDD. If marriage was done than i would've got banned with this new Eeprom as they should've known by now that the HDD was used one year ago by some other XBOX.

My only guesses are that u can still go online with a stock HDD that was never banned even though it was in the database. Another conclusion can be that MS startaed saving XBOX serial and HDD info after when i logged in initially.

Well, lemme add another 2 cents (we probably have like 20$ by now  smile.gif )
I signed up for Xbox live nearly a year ago, it'll be a year at the end of this month. I installed a Xecuter 2.3 lite and a 100 gig Western Digital around Februray, maybe March...anyways, I've been on XBL with no problems, watching all my friends play Halo 2 ::sniffle:: since I haven't got my copy yet. I think we're definetly catching onto something.  I was on XBL before I modded my Xbox, BUT I did it a while back, I think its safe to say that their was some kind of update that started recording this "marriage" data, in the past few months.  My only worry is that Halo 2 has something to do with it, when I get it though, I'm going on LIVE, and if I do get banned, not only will I cry, but I'll know why I got banned.  I should be getting Halo 2 in a few days, so for now all I can do is wait.

I know it seems as though if you change your harddrive after you create a live account you are getting banned, but this can't be true. I have three friends and modded all their boxes. They are all the exact same with 80 gig harddrives. All had xbox live way before the mod. Non of them played the french halo2. Only one of them got banned.  None of these people have changed anything on their box since it was modded, besides backing up their games. The only difference is the guy who got banned owns an action replay, so its possible he has some hacked saves on his harddrive. The other 2 are still playing halo2 as we speak.

Hmmm, I heard someone in another forum saying that M$ is tracking your HDD key and EEPROM. So if you get on your gamertag after getting banned with another eeprom, your getting banned again...I'm starting to believe this, because I've used 3 different EEPROM's on one Xbox with the same gamertag, and I've been banned yet again. Stock stuff to. Took out my chip, put in my 8 gig, restored it to how it should be. I've been banned 2 or 3 times now.

Ok......Here is what I found so far.

I have a xbox 1.0 with a 120GB Maxtor, X2.2 with 4981(live blocker) using avalaunch with C: clean and In E: i have a extra Movies folder with Divx and Porn..... I modded my box in July 2003....I was on Live since lauch and cancelled November 2003 after the mod...and HDD change. And i have been back and forth on live woth 2 month free trials ever since. I have never been banned.

Now.....I have been playing Halo 2 Since lauch on Live and have not been banned either.

So i am here to confirm that if you have an older box with a modded locked HD.....and you have never been banned that you can go on live just fine.

After all the readings that I have done.....I am 99% sure that the people that got banned after unbanning with just a clean EEPROM got banned again because of they had the same HD. Now......HD serials are married with EEPROM. And it is safe to assume that it is one of the updates in the past 6month that actually made this possible. What we need to know is that if MS marries EEPROMS and HDD of the factory.....which I dont think so.

One thing is for sure. When ever you log on LIVE your HD and EEPROm get married and none of them should be ever changed again. What I suggest to the the people who want a  bigger hardrive is to change the HD and EEPROM and KEEP A CLEAN C & E.
Try to get and older EEPROM. And you should be Fine. If you still get banned then this either means that the EEPROM was a newer one and might have been married to another HD at the Factory or you transfered a Hacked save file.

Good luck people

PS. Dont forget to get rid of everything that is not supporsed to be there in C E and Cache. Yes that includes your hacked saves and your downloaded content which is signed by your old EEPROM , which can be a very good and likely condition to get banned.

HOPE THIS HELPS

I have two xbox's

1st the all orginal xbox (it connects fine)

W: 0000-000B
X: 0000-F001
Y: 00A8-4860
Z:0000-0000

NOW THE MODDED XBOX (X2.2, 4983)
    First a few things
i never used LIVE with my modchip on and i have never replaced my eeprom

The first time i ever used LIVE was with my 200 gb harddrive
Now when the new banning scare came out, i figure that ms was was searching the hd for files that shouldn't be there. So i got out my orginal hd and made sure it didn't have any non-orginal xbox files on it. i used live with the orginal hd for about a day and today i find that when i log on to LIVE that I have been banned ("software or hardware may have been modified")

Modded xbox with orginal hd(BANNED)

W: 0000-000B
X: 0000-F001
Y: 00A8-6860
Z:8015-190D

Same Modded xbox with the 200 GB hd

W:0000-000B
X:0000-F001
Y:008A-0FE0
Z:AFFF-0018

Now I don't know if the 200 gb is banned
i get the message that the xbox couldn't connect to Live and to check router settings, and call my local isp

I hoping that this is useful info about the marriage theory.
I'm just wondering why i don't get the same banned message when i use my 200 GB hd. Is my xbox banned when i use the 200 GB hd or do I have different problems.

Gumba,

Got a question for you.  Do you think they are running a program to scan the harddrives firmware to get the serial, or just scanning the eeprom to get it?

If they scan the eeprom, they also have access to other harddware changes, correct?

If an eeprom updates the hardware (mine had detected when i changed the dvd and hdd), what isnt changed?  in otherwords, is your xbox serial locked to the eeprom, and that is why a new eeprom is needed.  because then you have a new xbox serial and hdd combo?

Thanks.

Easy solution... buy a used unmodded XBOX from a yard sale, video game store, ebay, etc. and only use it to play Live.  I've seen used XBOXes at yard sales for as little as $20. Ask to make sure it works before buying it, and check the labels to make sure the screws have never been out.

Now that's good news! If this is true then it sounds like they're not banning eeproms for a non-married HDD, but instead are only banning HDDs...  If this is true, then putting the drive back in that was in when you originally signed up with LIVE may fix your problem, and allow you to get back on live without even a new eeprom. Can anyone else confirm this? 8)

We're currently assuming they started saving HD info with the Live 2.0 udpate, which I believe, happened in March 2004 sometime.

Here's my info:

• purchased an Xbox in November of '03 and began using LIVE immediately
• spring (summer?) of '04 I installed an Xecuter Lite chip and all the popular apps and emulators
• replaced the HD with a small 30 gig a few weeks later, transferring all the data from original HD
• I've always used LIVE w/ the chip off of course (the bios prevent accidents automatically)
• I did try out the French PAL version a month ago, and I also forgot to delete any of these files
• purchased Halo 2 on Nov. 9th and played several hours on live
• played several hours on live on Nov. 10th, signing in and out many times - no problems
• played a few rounds this morning (Nov. 11th) before coming to work - still working fine

I feel as though I may have passed "the test", whatever that may be, but I also fear I may be delay-banned at any time.  sad.gif

Not sure what to do. My gut says to stay offline for a while and wait out the storm, but my Halo 2 cravings are beckoning.  dry.gif

According to what MS reps are saying though, your gamertag is not harmed in this ban. You can buy another Xbox and play on, so it looks to be all hardware and/or software related.
