So your're saying I can't go on live with my flagged gamertag on a softmodded xbox? Because I got a WD hdd and bought a new eeprom.

Marriage Theory - How To Not Get Banned.

Ok, i have read about 22 pages of this thread and i still need clarification.  Personally i modded my xbox with a 200GB hdd before it even touched live and i have not been banned, i play halo 2 on xbl almost every night no problem.  But my question is for a friend.  He just started an account on XBL and has been playing with me.  Well now he wants to mod his xbox with a 120GB hdd.  As far as i understand i will have to flash his xbox with a new virgin eeprom (which i got from a friend who cant go on XBL so i know its legit) when i put the new HDD in.  But then i came across the local marriage theory and i would like to know if this has been proven to work.  He has not been banned and if it is possible i would like to upgrade his hdd without chaning the eeprom.  Is that possible? If not its not big deal, he just really does not wanna get banned from XBL but he is willing to gamble.  I'm just trying to take every precaution to ensure that he doesnt get banned from XBL.  Thanks for the the help.

I think the Local Marriage Theory doesn't work.

You will need to flash a new eeprom.

I would suggest backing up the old eeprom to a CD or something, and unlocking the old stock HD.

You can then either keep them together to re-use if your friend gets banned. Or sell them to someone who wants an unbanned eeprom+stock hd pair.

The eeprom is the DNA for your xbox.
Whenever you log onto Live they take a note of your eeprom and Hard drive key.
The 2 are forever linked.
So if you change Hard Drive MS know you have modded your xbox as they eeprom and HD key are not the same and you will be banned.

You can buy eeproms, check the right forum, and flash them via the instructions gien on purchase.

From memory v1-v1.5 eeproms can be used on all those version, 1.6 needs its own version eeprom.
You can use the same gamertag once you have setup the new syste, only time to change is if you have been banned before.

Drive Cross-Referencing
It appears you can use an unbanned but not virgin HD with a virgin EEPROM but you can't use a non-virgin EEPROM with a different HD (without copying the drive 'disk.bin' info from one to the other)

Okay... this may have been covered, but this thread is too long to read all the way through...  How does one go about this 'disk.bin' info copying, and can this allow you to change the info on a newly upgraded, larger HD to match your original xbox drive?

cross-referencing and lcoal marriage theory are pretty much debunked at this point, MS may have used this method for a while, but now you need a new eeprom to use a new HD on Live
