Yeah, 100%, the only uncertainty is if there are other ban-vectors at work.

Well, sure, but there are other 100% confirmed ban-vectors.

for example, using a non MS, xboxdash.xbe will get you banned very quickly. Just like going online with a modchip enabled will. But if you don't go online with your modchip enabled, don't have a dumb install (evox as xboxdash.xbe!) and don't try to play hacked games online... and obey the marriage theory... and don't have a flagged gamertag, you'll be fine

I'm still trying to figure this out exactly...

I've got a 120 gig HD in my softmodded xbox (UDE1), and I'm thinking about getting live (this box has never been on live), but I can't get it, correct?  Because xboxdash.xbe is PBL?

So, you could try restoring the proper dash and stuff...

Or you could actually just get a read modchip

my next step, 1.0 that has never been on live with network disconnected so it does not get time <so time is old =) >... install large drive and install all old software... allow it to go on line and update it self with xbox live... then see what happends.

I have a HD activity LED wired up. When I would go into the Friends section of Live. It would flash A LOT. and take a while to get to it. I don't remember if thats normal or not.

Here's my working live setup, FYI.

Xbox 1.1, Chameleon, 40Gb HD, X2 4983 bios, Slayer 2.6 setup on C and F, 2 months live trial.

I modded the box long before I tried live, and the bios automatically blocks the live port, so I can't log into live with the chip on. Whenever I try and risk banning, I got the message Live network could not be reached.

Whenever I go to live, I do so by evoX's "boot w.o. chameleon" option. This boots in normal mode, and since my C: drive is absolutely clean except for an evoxdash.xbe, this seems to work fine.

The past few weeks I went in and out of live several times with different games, just for testing. Still not banned. My trial should be due over soon. I'm not sure if M$ makes any difference in full/trial subscriptions, this here is just my testresults I wanted to share with you.

I don't use Live anyway, I'm more of a KAI user (tagname "commanderkeen").
Frag me anytime there, I pretty much suck on Halo 2 hehe ;-)

If MS decides to change the rules again all bets are off.

MS can do whatever they need to do to make it so repair/work they carry out won't get you banned.

If you're concerned about future changes, then the Extender is a good option... unless you have already gone on Live with an upgraded HD. You can get banned for switching HD even if you're switching from an upgraded HD to a stock HD (even the original stock HD!)

And yes, you should be able to re-setup an HD to stock using Slayers, but some have been saying that that's not true

They don't discriminate.  
I got banned in less than 24 hrs. on a trial subscription.

Any news in this matter? The cookie stuff is really interesting, I would love to see some more test results (low level formats, previously banned GT etc).
I may have missed it, but I have yet to see confirmation that the following works:
Situation
Banned xbox
Large harddrive (the one that was in the box on banning)
GT (the one used for signing in when ban occured)
solutions
Fresh EEPROM
Low Level Format to clear cookies (sames HD as when ban occured)
Sign in using the same GT that was used when Ban occured.

I have access to an Xbox with a large HD, banned EEPROM, "banned" GT. So I can test the above scenario and give results. What the quicktest/cheapest way to get hold of a new virgin eeprom?

Also a small prayer: Could people with "I just bought an Xbox how can I avoid getting banned" etc post keep it out of here. This is a fact finding post, trying to get to the bottom of things.

Also: Halo 2 on modded xbox, Large harddrive, non stock files on E:, F: drives etc DONT get you banned. Being careless with a modchip, not disabling auto signin in the xbdash etc gets you banned.
And I dont care what your "friends" have experienced, I want first hand, fact based posts. Anything else is useless.
