Marriage Theory - How To Not Get Banned.

Welp, so far so good.  I took my upgraded hard drive back to best buy and exhanged it for a brand new one.  Bought a new EEPROM tonight and set it up.  Made sure C and E were nice and clean.  So far no problems.  I have no idea if I was banned before or not.  What I do know is that I went on live very recently with my stock drive and stock eeprom, and within a week I went on with an upgraded drive and same eeprom.  I have a feeling if I would have went on with H2 I would have been banned.  We shall see if all is the same in a few days.  If so, I would venture to say the marriage theory is pretty much on the money...

Marriage Theory - How To Not Get Banned.
« Reply #107 on: November 13, 2004, 09:14:00 AM »

here's an idea i had.  i have 2 boxes, modded and virgin.  (modded stats in sig).  what if  i installed 2 hdd swap drives.  i found a site that has the bay and tray for 10 bucks and an xtra tray for 9.  so i could have 2 bays (one for each box) and 3 trays (2 for upgraded hdds, and one for stock virgin hdd).  do a case mod, install the bays.  take the eeprom from virgin box, install it on modded box.  so i would have 2 identical boxes, as long as i had the SAME hdd in there, right.  would just have to make sure if i sign on with box one, it has the "live drive".  if i sign on with box 2, i have the "live drive" in that one.  and say i even went and got a new gt.

if i/someone else did this, and still got banned, then that would mean they are scanning for more.  whether it be the dvd (one has tommy, other has sammy) or whatever.  i know that opinion is they arent, but this could just be another test.  and an easy way to save on drives  smile.gif.  if anyone wants the link to the swap drive bay/tray i was talking about, just pm me.  unless more wants it i'll post it.

Ok , Many of you are working on the married eeprom and hdd , I must admit this looks like the most valid explanation around so far .

I have started to look at this from another angle .
WHAT DOES MICRO$OFT GET OUT OF THIS ???

Point :- Well as we all know Micro$oft is big on the fight against piracy but really did this ban stop piracy ?
A :- NO We all know not to use copied games on Xbox live.

Point :- To stop cheating on Xbox live?
A :- IMHO Yes I think this ban has done this (for now) , As many people are removing mods and putting back there stock drive.

Point :- To increase the sale of Xboxes ?
A :- YES !!! Just look at the timing !! Just when Halo 2 comes out so many boxes banned. And I know of loads of people who went out to buy a new Xbox to get back online .

So looking at this I feel that Micro$oft is scanning for known game cheats (trainers) And I know If you use Slayer Auto Installer (Great Program Lads  wink.gif  ) It installs a bunch of Trainers .

Thoughts on this please ..
Thanks to all who are trying to find out what Micro$oft are doing ….

Ps . Please also be aware that Micro$oft keep an eye on this forum …

after that, if i go into xenium os, and unlock and lock the drive again, does it change it from teamassembly back to the more complex numerical?

You seem to misunderstand the HDD locking process.  The TEAMASSEMBLY password is the 'Master' password.  It is not the 'User' password.  They are 2 completely different things

When you lock a HDD using Config Magic, or whatever, it sets the User password (the long complex password), and sets the Master Password to TEAMASSEMBLY.  When you boot the Xbox, the BIOS unlocks the HDD using the User password, which is unique to every Xbox.  The Master password is not actually used at all.

The only reason why Config Magic started setting the Master Password to TEAMASSEMBLY, is so that we can easily disable the lock on any HDD that has been locked in the past.  (eg. if a motherboard dies, or if you accidentally got a HDD mixed up and can't find it's matching motherboard, etc.)

Ok here is my setup

Got Xbox in December of 2002. Got live a week after that.

modded xbox with 120GB in feb of 2003 to use it as media center.

didnt play Live, much of 2003.

In early summer of 2004, i swapped my 120GB with a smalller 80GB.

When madden 2k5 came out in August, i bought it and played on Live.

I got banned because i played madden from original disc but the chip was on.

so i got new eeprom and was able to play on Live again.

I first played Halo 2 thurs nite, and my xbox did the update.

It's not 1pm on sat afternoon and I still havent been banned.

Anyone know when Live 2.0 came out?

All I know is if they started to log HD/eeprom since Live 2.0, when i replaced my eeprom in Aug, i should now be banned since i played halo 2.

Any thoughts?

one more thing i forgot to mention. before I went on halo 2 for the first time on thurs nite, i loaded to MS dash and erased any non MS game saves, things like XBMC. Also i deleted Xbox live account file and did account recovery before i even tried halo 2 on Live

maybe that reregistered my hd/eeprom?

nice! thanks

that'd be another confirmation on the marriage theory

If Live 2.0 started to log that info, anyone who's modded or changed eeprom or hd before 9/12/2004 should be ok as long as they dont change drives or eeprom now.

Do we have any reason to believe that an xbox without XBL user info will still "phone home" with the eeprom/hdd "marriage" info?  Or is the assumption that without user info, one is totally safe from accidentally connecting up to XBL?

I've got a v1.6 box, so there's no XBL-blocking bios that'll run for me.  I was thinking to get a new GT and save it only to a memory card, so as to prevent accidentally connecting to XBLive when I'm booted through the EvoX bios.

Assuming we think this is a safe approach, I'm still looking around for a document on how to save XBL credentials to a memory card and _not_ the hard drive, if anyone's got a pointer.

Hey people
I got banned from live
so I was wondering
Im not using a modchip im using a half flashed tsop bios
I think I got banned because of my executer mod that was on my box which i broke all the traces on the modchip.

so if I install a new eeprom and use a stock hdd with it without replaceing my gt would it work
cause i just got mine renewed like a month ago.

If this marriage theory is correct should I actually not want to switch my harrdrive with the stock one because my gamertag has been registered with my 80 gig's hd serial number? What do you guys think.
I don't even have a modchip installed.

I don't even have a modchip installed.

There have been plenty of people who have been banned with stock disks precisely because they thought it would be a better idea to downgrade their harddisk

If I was you, I would leave the 80GB as it is

I installed an X2.2 and a 160GB locked hard drive before going on live, then I got live and recently put in an X3 and I'm still not banned.

I will be modding my friends xbox this weekend who has already been on live. So to get my information straight, will I need to get him a new EEPROM when I uprgrade the hard drive since his current EEPROM has already been married to his stock hard drive? Thanks
