My Results With Live Testing
« on: November 10, 2004, 03:33:00 PM »

Ok I have a 1.0 xbox with a x2.3 chip and 250 gb hard drive.  I have had the chip and hard drive for a long time now.  I created a new accont yesterday with the 2 month trial.  This was the first time my xbox went on live.  Everything worked fine yesterday.

So I logged back onto live today, with no problems at all.  I think they record your eprom and HDD serial number when you make your account.  As long as the original 2 numbers match you will be fine.  That is what I have seen from my testing so far.

Yeah - this is what I believe the source of most of the bannings is.

as long as you registerd after the new hd was installed - then i belive you are fine...

only time will tell though.

Hey let's say I have logged to XBL before, with my stock hdd & chip disabled....When my 2 month trial finished , I canceled/deleted my account from my hdd....Now if I changed my hdd to an 80gb, lock it..And go buy halo 2  and use the trial there to go on live....Will that be ok?

I think you will be banned.  I think they pair up the eprom and HDD serial number.  So if either one of those numbers shows up again.  They will ban the account if it only has one of the numbers with an xbox istead of the matched set.  Thats my theory.

Pingrr is it possible for you to set up a packet sniffer between your xbox and XBL connection to see what data is being sent over the network when you log onto live?

conor-mr2, the data is encrypted.  The hdd marriage this is what I think this is about as well.  I agree the the OP.  I also have been on live for the better half of the week.  There doesn't seem to be any problem as long as u first log in with ur already replaced hdd.  I believe M$ is keeping a record on eeproms and hdd serials somewhere.  Someone should go and delete that list...  Where are the l33t h@x0rs?   jester.gif

I have a quick question. I've been reading the forums for a while now on this subject, and it does seem to keep coming back to a "marriage" of your EEPROM and hard drive, and if you had been on Live before upgrading your HD.

HOWEVER, I have never upgraded my HDD. I am still using the stock one. So my hard drive serial has never changed. Yet I was banned. So, if this "marriage" theory is correct, I have to assume that somehow my EEPROM file changed. So my simple question is this: Does anybody know if EvoX modifies your EEPROM. I am running EvoX Bios M7, as well as the EvoX dashboard on my XBox that has a Xenium Ice installed.

I'm not even entirely clear on what the EEPROM is and what it's used for. I know it's a file, or set of files, on your XBox, but that's about it.

You need to provide some detailed information and history about your Xbox for us to figure out why you got banned.

Not too sure what else to provide. But I'll have a go.

I bought my XBox about 2 years ago (not sure of the date). Went on Live immediately (no mods or anything). I added my Xenium Ice solderless about 2 months ago. I played some Live games (Rainbow Six, ESPN NFL 2K5, etc), with the chip turned off, no problems. Still using the stock HDD.

I bought Halo 2 the day it came out. Played some campaign, with the mod chip off. I read about the problems people were seeing getting banned, so I decided to wait a little while. It was looking like people who were having issues were mostly people with new hard drives. So I figured I was safe. I sign on to Live through the MS Dash (again, chip turned off, still stock HD), and I got the "Modified Hardware" message.

That's about it. I have EvoX bios and dash all on my C partition, which some seem to think could be the issue. It looks like there are so many theories out there that there is no easy fix. I saw the theory on the fact that MS could be checking the D0 point of the mobo too, which would explain my getting that message.

Any other ideas? I just don't want others w/ a stock hard drive but with a mod chip to jump on thinking they're safe just to get screwed. Trying to save others from my hassle.  ohmy.gif

I set up a new account and used a packet sniffer both during the account creation and during the initial dash update when loading halo 2.  If you would like the logs of these packets, pm me with your email address.

where you able to play online that first time with halo 2 or did you get the message right away, if you got the message right away that would be very strange

chameleon 1.3, 160 gig samsung drive, 1.4 xbox, 160 gig drive went in a 7 weeks ago, played live for at least 8 months on this box with no problem, got online with H2 on the 8th/9th after the  midnight sale all was ok. try'd to go online the 9th after i got home from work at 6 pm and was banned, there aint much of a delay there at all

any way just transfered my live account to my other non modded box on the 9th and been playing H2 everyday.

but im gonna call M$ or do a message chat on xbox live site from my parents house and see what the hell these guys say cause ive never had chip on while playing live and never used any hacked saves ever, i dont even have them on my xbox
