Updating Dash To Get Hdtv Res, Question About Ban

I installed afull slayer distro on my xbox. Been using it fine for about a year. I recently bought an HDTV ready TV, and want to utilize the resolutions. Should I switch off my chip , boot into regular dash , select xbox live tab(something Ive never done) and let it update? I dont care about LIVE playing, so I dont care if I get banned, I want to use the HDTV capability tho. suggestions?
