QUOTE (mcukier @ Nov 16 2004, 06:37 PM)
My FTP was working *fine* before... nothing else has changed. I'm running an XBIT with Xecuter BIOS-- original HD/DVD. Used Slayer's EvoX Dash autoinstall v2.6-- nothing else too fancy (I have a SNES and N64 emulator on the HD, along with configmagic-- those are my only extra apps).

I'm totally stumped as to why FTP stopped working!!

I dont know how xbit works, but it seems like you just have to configure the dashboard. I would suggest using avalaunch and seeing what it give you for IP, making sure its turned on, then go from there. again tho, this is because im not familiar with xbit.

If you can resolve the dns and Ip, but cannot connect to live, you should be able to ftp into your xbox through ur router (or however u had it set up)

xGetOnMahLevelx

Did that eeprom that you have now was on an xbox that had live? can you use an eeprom from an unbanned xbox that was live and flash it to your banned xbox with a retail hdd?

I dont know if im banned or not, but im getting a network connection error. Never had a problem before today and never used the modchip on. this is strange.

EDIT: FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST LOOKING AT THIS THREAD

Here was my error

Network Error

Could not connect to Xbox live. Check these possible options:
-If connected to router, make sure MTU is 1365 or higher
-If connected to PC make sure connction sharing is on
-Your ISP may require addition steps to connect

If you are getting this error, you ARE BANNED!!!!!

Regardless of what others 'think is going on'

Just for those who refuse to take my word, here is some data to help the theory

If you take an xbox that has been banned with the 'mod error' and put in a new slayered hard drive without changing the eeprom, you will get this Network Error, even though (obviously) you are banned.

Also NOBODY who has had this error has been able to recover from this and get live working again, as is the same as the 'mod error'

If this has happened to you, you need to either
1) virgin stock HD, virgin eeprom
2) virgin large HD, virgin eeprom, new GT
go here for exact procedure and follow it EXACTLY

Dude your wrong Ive been able to fix that just use engmah video switcher.
If you get a virgin stock hd and virgin eeprom.
If you get that cannot connect error. then try enigmah video switcher.
or if you upgrade your hdd and you connect to live for the first time,

and get that error,

Then use xbox_clone.zip and clone from stock hdd to upgraded hdd and it will fix your problem.

I have tested both of those to be working.

if it doesnt work its because 00C2 wasnt in your xyz codes.

Edit: you can find the video switcher in xbins under xbox apps utilities I believe.
just switch between pal and ntsc a few times or more.

then delete everything modded on hardrive and connect to live.

this worked for me and i had a y code of 00C2 etc...

are you saying these are 2 different methods?

(stock virgin eeprom and hd will always work of course, even if youve never been banned)

I will plug in my old Hard drive and eeprom and see if I can get this working...

this will be very interesting to me... If I can get my old stuff back on live using your method, I will update my front page post again...

Also can u post a little more detailed instructions on this please.. sorry...

SO I don't double post, let me edit this second post:

My box was modded with X2-Lite way back (over a year).  I did accidentally get banned once, cause I played Prince of Persia and didn't know it was Live-Aware (back before 4980+ bios was out).  SO I bought a new EEPROM and installed it, and BAM was back online just fine (this was Jan 04!).  Live was still working in the the summer at some point (don't remember when, I don't use Live much!), and then I tried again today and am now getting errors.  FUNKATRONIC!  Argghhhh...not sure what to do, sometimes you get tired of trouble-shooting.

That sucks, I'm just saying it worked for me and another guy.

so someone should always try that first and if it doesnt work then your banned.

Solid, everyone:

My DNS *does* resolve... my IP is assigned and valid (I verified this in my router's DHCP client table).

If I use the windows native ftp (in the command prompt), I can connect to my xbox... but if I try to list the directories, it freezes.

I then looked a little bit closer at my FlashFXP logs, and I noticed that something similar is happening-- it contacts my XBox allright, but then just fails with the message "cannot open Data connection to <ip address>".

Out of desperation I tried to reinstall EvoX dash... no luck. *ANY* suggestions are most welcome... because now not only can I not get on live, but I can't even try switching my EEPROM, etc!!! I'm basically totally hosed... I say again: arggghhhh.

Thanks to All in Advance,
   Mark

Everyone:

I'm an idiot. The reason my FTP wasn't working is soooo stupid I dare not repeat it here. Let's just leave it at, "I'm up and running". Thanks for the help everyone.

NOW all I have to do is get myself "unbanned"... I spent $$$ on halo2 simply to go online. I haven't even gotten to play yet and I'm PISSED.

Can you please explain your whole situation to me? Just give a basic over view of what happened and I will ask for more details if I dont understand...
thanks!

Zoomer: If you changed your eeprom in the past, that is no longer good enough, you need a new eeprom AND HD

this is NOT your hardware error. Plugging into the cable modem directly won't work.  If this was the problem, it would give you the same error if you plugged an unmodded xbox into the network, but it just lets you connect right away.

did anyone get anywhere with this?

i started getting the network error last night when trying to sign in - going into troubleshooting would always connect fine but trying to connect within a game or within the 'user management' bit in the dashboard would simply fail with what looks like a timeout. No banning message nothing.

Any other updates on this?
