I dont know if im banned or not, but im getting a network connection error. Never had a problem before today and never used the modchip on. this is strange.

EDIT: FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST LOOKING AT THIS THREAD

Here was my error

Network Error

Could not connect to Xbox live. Check these possible options:
-If connected to router, make sure MTU is 1365 or higher
-If connected to PC make sure connction sharing is on
-Your ISP may require addition steps to connect

If you are getting this error, you ARE BANNED!!!!!

Regardless of what others 'think is going on'

Just for those who refuse to take my word, here is some data to help the theory

If you take an xbox that has been banned with the 'mod error' and put in a new slayered hard drive without changing the eeprom, you will get this Network Error, even though (obviously) you are banned.

Also NOBODY who has had this error has been able to recover from this and get live working again, as is the same as the 'mod error'

If this has happened to you, you need to either
1) virgin stock HD, virgin eeprom
2) virgin large HD, virgin eeprom, new GT

i was banned today..
and error was "cannot connect"
then went to troubleshooting... went all teh way to the last step and said "modified hardware/software"

so maybe this means i am not actually banned then? I am going to slayer a 10gb hard drive (non stock) and see what happenes, unfortunately I wont be back at home until 6, got work... I also have a stockpile of hard drives and I may be able to steal someone in my dorms eeprom that I will save for the solution... so if I figure out if i am definately banned, I will perform some tests... whatever the 'experts' think is a good test

Sorry that ive been posting like a freakin maniac lately but heres another...

Once I had this Network error last night I called M$ and said I couldnt connect. I bulked at the last second and gave a fake name and said i was trying to create a new account... The guy told me that one of the reasons I couldnt connect could possibly be becasue there is an update going out and I am behind a linksys router. I was like, i dont think that is it because my friend brought over his xbox with and was able to connect using the same stuff (total BS). He said that different xbox updates may confllict with routers and such, even if a different xbox worked in the past on the same setup. he may not know what he was talking about, but if there is a live update or something this could be why I was getting the network connect error and not the modified xbox error... He told me to connect straight through to the cable modem instead of through the router but before I could finish the conversation, my girlfriend called me so i hung up on him...

My MTU is set at 1500 and I've even tried connecting my xbox directly to the cable modem with no success.

I have a modded box (xecuter 2.3b lite plus) with a new stock harddrive and good eeprom. I used slayers 2.6 to take the harddrive back to retail and config magic to lock the harddrive.

did you put the new eeprom in and the previously unbanned slayered stock hard drive after you got the same error? or did you do this first and then get this error...

also if you connect directly to the modem, you may have to put ur dns and other info (exept IP) manually.

Alas...I tried this "solution" and it didn't work. I'm considering changing the mac address on my eeprom with config magic, but am scared to do so. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not going to say the network error is or isn't a ban just yet, but I'm having a wierd problem with XBL. I can connect to XBL through the troubleshooter just fine. I can connect to XBL through the dash, but I get an error whenever trying to access the sections (Voice Chat, Friends List, even Account Management). I get a connection error when trying to connect to XBL from ANY game. Just before this happened, I had to download an update from XBL.

I'm at work now, but I'm going to test this when I get home. First, delete the Online Update Application from your game saves. Then try connecting your XBox directly to the cable/dsl modem. I'll post what I find as soon as I get a chance to test it.

ok.. I have a solution and an answer. you probably ARE banned... i had the same "network error" what you should do is get a stock HDD and and new eeprom... better just to get a new box... because ur HDD and eeprom ARE banned

This network error is actually a ban... after experimenting and reading other peoples stuff, just treat this error like a ban from now on. I also believe M$ may be checking E drives, just so you know.
