ATTENTION: Solution For Xbox Live Bannings
« Reply #270 on: November 29, 2004, 08:15:00 PM »

So I have a question about a setup that I am about to try...hopefully someone can give me some answers....I was banned about a week ago and just got a new eeprom. I am going to put my old stock hdd back in my xbox (it has been on live in the past before I modded my box, but it is completely unaltered and has legit MS software) and then use the new eeprom. As long as I keep my chip disabled should I be okay? That is as long as they aren't testing the LPC ports as I have been reading because that would just totally screw me over. I have a 1.0 box NTSC and X3 1959bios. Thanks for the input.

Marriage Theory says you will be banned.

BUT there have been reports of success using an unbanned but not virgin stock HD with a different EEPROM.

Also, you could try doing a low-level format on the drive.

I put my old stock HD in with new EEPROM after getting banned with large HD. I've not been banned yet even though the stock HD was used on live until mid-July. Of course, it could be that I get banned after a few weeks.

Use Qwix to extract the Slayer ISO to C:\ on your PC. Save your eeprom.bin file to C:\SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6FINAL\SYSTEM\ALL\ConfigMagic\Data and say yes to the overwrite file prompt. Then use Qwix to compile a new ISO from C:\SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6FINAL. Burn the ISO, boot up Xbox, load Configmagic. Unlock HD, choose "Load EEPROM from .bin file", Lock HD.

Well, I am currently unbanned for four weeks as of tonight, with a Western Digital 120GB HDD installed.

I think Miggidy's statement about MS now checking all Gamer Tags and Xbox Live connections is not entirely true, just because I am still unbanned.

Could someone please explain to me what exactly the HDD key theory is?

There's only one other thing I can think of, the new mandatory XBL download for Halo 2.

Have you been playing Halo 2 online Cloaked? (the retail version of course for u noobs)
If not, then this might be the answer as to why I was banned.
Even though it was a few days after, there's a good chance it was this download that took me out.

I heard M$ has admitted that the new download helps track down modded Xbox units....

Currently, I'm tryin to get back online with a new Xbox and a 200 gig hdd.
New gamertag of course.
If all goes well, I should never have to worry about getting banned again,
that is if I don't fuck up and log on Live with my chip on....

But if I end up getting banned again, then it's definately the new Halo 2 download that allows M$ to do a more extensive check on your hard drive.
Upgraded HDD's that is....

Why would you recommend doing a low level format? If MS is scanning partitions, that doesn't have anything to do with an MBR scan which they wouldn't do in the first place...  you couldn't prove anything with it. No one should ever need to do a low level format unless they've been tagged with an mbr virus or they're afraid of their hard drive getting "investigated"... as in... by the FBI if you expect your house is gonna get raided. :-p

Well just to update on my Xperiences to date.  I am still using a 120 maxtor 250 maxtor both with all apps on F: and G:, just stock stuff on C:.  I currently use Live on each drive with no problems yet on a daily base.  Oh yea the 250 I use in two different Xbox which I use LIVE on.  Chip off of coarse.  NO ban yet.......   beerchug.gif

Miggidy,

Yes, I have played the retail version of Halo 2 on Xbox Live. I have installed both the initial update as well as the second update that was just released. I have been playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live since November 9th, and I am currently unbanned for exactly five weeks as of tonight.

So, no, I don't think it has anything to do with the Halo 2 updates.

Okay, there is one new theory which is basically that the marriage data is recorded locally... possibly in the MBR.

If you low-level format a drive you virginize it. Then providing that you use a virgin EEPROM you can take it back on Live.

This has been confirmed, but I wouldn't say rigorously yet.

Its nothing to do w/ Halo2.
I hadn't played Halo 2 until Turkey Day. But I was banned weeks before.

Damn I'm still puzzled as to how they got me....

Oh well, I got a hold of a new xbox with a new 200 gig hd and a new Live account.
Played fine last night, and everything should be fine when I get home tonight.

Now if I get banned again then I'll have to conclude that M$ is keeping tabs on our Live account user details.
I've been using different credit cards with slightly altered names, but my address has remained the same.

We'll see what happens....

24 hours later and I'm still going.

I'm still puzzled as to how and why I was banned last week.

Oh well....
