You can pay 50$ for a new live account but you can try to make a new live account with a 2 month free trial too. may be you can get it from new xbox software like Halo2 or DOAU

I've never heard about anybody changed his GT in his Xbox or via xbox.com
If I was wrong tell me the case

Just to chime in with my findings.

I had a modded xbox, I reverted back stock (old hard drive, removed chip entirely) on 11/9/04. I called M$ because I couldn't sign in to XBL. They said my account was in good standing and I just need to do an account recovery. I did that, and it worked. Wheeeee!

So we had a big LAN party last night, I tried out XBL, and it worked fine. I get my box home today and try to go on live, and says I'm banned. They say I should buy another xbox and hung up on me. smile.gif

So to review:

Stock hard drive
No Mod chip
Haven't previously play XBL for months
Never been banned
M$ said GamerTag was in good standing

WTF??? I just got Halo 2, and can't do crap with it. Grrrrrrrr.

Wow, they told u to get another xbox and they hung up on you?  I would keep calling and try to bother the heck out of them.  I hope I don't get banned, but I can see that there is always the possibility.

Seriously though, I would keep calling them and complain over and over.

i have a newly modded box that has never been on live before. i am about to install a 160gb Seagate hdd BEFORE ever putting halo 2 (which is thought to do some hdd scanning) and using the stock EEPROM (i have a spare). do you think i'll be banned, or do you need more information to determine it?

First phase of test fails. I tried formatting without putting in new eeprom. (Stupid test i know, but what the hell. lol). Still banned. Now as soon as i can get a v 1.0 eeprom i can test with new eeprom. that will be the true test.

I have been banned before too and when i went on live a couple days ago i was too faced with a modified xbox error but i still and always have been using the stock HD. So  my GT must be tagged and one of these "rigerous tests" must be scanning HD contents because i still have the stock HD. Well thats my 2 cents.

I also purchased a new xbox and can also confirm GT are not banned, i am able to use live fine now.

What are your specs?

And did you sign on live before or after the xbox was modded?

hmm this question doesnt make sense, original hard disk and Eeprom and still banned.

This would indicate M$ has more scanning powers of other things too

Okay, stock HDD + fresh EEPROM, the drive has been formatted to factory default settings.  I was able to play for a few hours tonight, lets see if I'm still good tomorrow.

I've obtained a fresh EEPROM and my original stock HD. The HD was used on live for a few weeks when I first signed up (June this year). I used slayer's 2.6 to format the HD to factory (option 4b2-3). The only other thing I put on my HD were my savegames. I used account recovery and I'm back on.

If I do get banned in the next few weeks, then MS must have recorded the serial number of this HD when I signed up and linked it to my original EEPROM. If not, it would seem that they only ban the larger HD and the EEPROM in the Xbox at the time.

I followed the procedure outlined on this thread and now am successfully back on live (day2).  Following are the details for those interested:

I have been banned several times probably because I had an upgraded HD. Every time I reflashed the eeprom I was able to get online for only a day or two before I'd get banned again.  I still had my stock HD somewhere and according to this thread, returning the xbox to it's stock state would get me back on.

However, when I plugged the drive back in I got an error6. This was because the eeprom that my xbox was flashed with wasn't the one that was hard coded on the drive.  Fortunately for me, I had a backup eeprom stashed somewhere. Once my xbox was flashed with the old eeprom, my stock drive started reading fine.

Used slayers to wipe my xbox to factory state, flashed it with an NEW UNBANNED EEPROM, hopped on live, and lots of halo2 fun was had by me. My xbox is open and I guess when I want to use the old hd I'll just do a quick IDE cable switch and I'm ready to go. Small price to pay I think.

Hope this helps someone.
