All right, I'm still awaiting on an Eeprom.  I'm going to try to use my friend's Stock Xbox Drive which has never been on Xbox Live at all.  I think so far the whole eeprom/HD# matching seems to be legit.  I will try this once I get both the stock HD and a new eeprom.

Unless he has 6 2 Month Free Trials... but that would be a pretty nasty waste.  I'd honestly give up at 2.

Well, unless you had a new eeprom AND a new gamer tag that's hardly a revelation or a surprise.

Just an update for those that were curious... so far so good. Still not banned. If this holds up it does cast some doubt on the HD serial monitoring, as right now I've got a HD serial they've seen before and it's not with the same eeprom it was with originally. But it is a bone stock HD and I'm starting to think that that's the most important thing, along with a clean eeprom and possibly the GT. Will report back if anything changes.

I just got home and logged on to live with the 250 gig.  Again comming up roses.  They are marrying the HD and EEPROM.  Like I said I just lucked into this method before it was even posted about a month ago.  Ill keep you guys updated.

handles, I think you are right, I'm not arguing that. I don't think they have a record of the hard drive serial of every HD they've used, and if yours isn't on there they ban you (I know that's not what anyone's suggesting). So if your unique HD serial is a big HD but they've never seen it all should be well. I really do think that CHANGES to HD serial (and possibly eeprom) are what gets noted.

That being said I can't explain the success I've had so far with a stock HD they've already theoretically seen. It's possible that changes in HD serial are noted and the eeprom is flagged/banned, but no record is kept of the HD serial. Or they could just be toying with me and I'll be banned soon enough  rolleyes.gif If so I just have to go through the annoying process of getting another eeprom and swap my big Xbox HD for the slightly smaller HD with my MP3s on it because they'll never have seen that. But I sure hope to avoid doing that (bought all the switches and junk necessary to have an external HD today).

1. Acquire and install a new unbanned HDD.
2. Format the HDD and install the retail MS Dashboard using Slayers 2.6.
3. Acquire and install a new unbanned/unused EEPROM using ConfigMagic.
4. Register a new Xbox Live account using a different GT. (CRITICAL!!!)

If you use original HDD, the point of 4 steps is buying a new eeprom never been

used. even though you changed EEPROM and HDD at the same time, you could be

screwed up because of wrong EEPROM. I sure that If you follow 4 steps exactly,

with a clean EEPROM you can go back to XBL. one more thing  If you want to use

your orginal HDD, you don't need to follow step 4(Register a new Xbox Live

account using a different GT). using old GT is enough.

Of course getting both a new stock HD and a new eeprom will work, this is basically buying a new Xbox sans motherboard, DVD-ROM, etc. I think what we're trying to figure out here is exactly what MS currently cares about, and what is being used to track modded 'boxes. I also am not convinced that it's safe to use your old GT. I think there is merit to the idea that this puts you at increased scrutiny. All I can do is report what happens to me, and if I get banned... so it goes. But I suspect there are a lot of us in my situation who held on to our old HDs, and it would be nice to have one less thing to go out and buy.

alright, now im hoping mine works. I thought lazarus got banned on his stock HD, cause thats what happened to me. Maybe we do just have to format and redo eeprom even on a large harddrive. Maybe if you format then it whipes your HD clean of what they are looking for. Im gonna try formatting the stock HD I got banned with.

I have a quick question. When you guys say you "got a new GT", do you mean you went out and paid $50 for a new Live account? Or can you change your GT via xbox.com or in the xbox itself or some other way?

Thanks.
