The New Banning Has Nothing To Do With A Game!
« Reply #1 on: October 31, 2004, 09:45:00 AM »

Summary...I just got this box. It is a 1.0 with a Xecuter3 in it. It has the latest Gold Bios in it. It has xblive "disable" in the bios. It was definitely enabled when I hit "live", so I had to disable the chip to get there. I hit live twice with ESPN Basketball 2k5 retail bought cd version game. I did upgrade the drive with a WD 80GB but I had NO backed up games. NONE. I took the stock drive out and put in the WD and loaded a firefuckers Avalaunch install. I used the stealth option with no G drive, all on F. I then disabled my chip and got on live with ESPN Basketball 2K5. We are talking one game here and it was the real version. Never played a backup on that Xbox.

To follow up on some of your other questions...

"- Is this your first ban, or were you banned before ?"

I was banned about 5 months ago on another box. But I had gotten back on for several months before my box was stolen.

" You said no games were on the xbox, do you mean you never played a backup on that xbox ? " AND "- if so, any recent games ? (coz, a game could write down some info when it is run under a modchip.. and xbox live could read that info when you go online.. just a theory)" AND "- Are there any save games for titles you don't own AND are they from a region that you are not from (so PAL title on NTSC xbox)" AND "- any hacked saves?" AND "- halo 2 save game?"

I had never played a backup on that box.

"- do you have any apps/mediaplayer/emus on c: e: ?"

On E, yes. Definitely standard util apps like dvd2xbox, etc.

" how about on f:?"

Yes

"- modchip or softmod? and which one"

Xecuter3

"- bios has xblive blocking feature (i believe x2 4980-4983)"

X3 Bios Build 1943 GOLD RELEASE

"- what security protection do you have in place (talking about it in your post)"

I was referring to the bios protection, the hard drive stealth install.

"please write down your WYXZ codes (see below), so we can see if there is something special there"

1.00.5971.01
W: 0000-000B
X: 0000-F001
Y:00A8-6860
Z:8015-190D
L:0ms(0ms) P:0/0

Hope this helps...

One thing I noticed, it says xbox live not found when going through the troubleshooting. Did I mess up the upgrade by not porting over my old version of Live??

I don't know what Gold bios is, but i guess it a x2 4983 like bios as it has xblive
blocking.
Anyway, as this is an v1.0 box, i assume you bought it from someone else?? Perhaps it was sold because the box was banned from xbox live already??

Could you use live on this box when you got it ? Did it come with a xbox live dash (as a v1.0 normally has a dash that doesnt have a live dash). if it didnt perhaps the guy restored it to an old dash (or was banned with a large HDD), so that doesn't say much either.

Did you play ESPN offline with the chip on??
because, i believe the game is live aware meaning it might have connected to xbox live when you were playing offline mode.

Lots of people are getting rebanned, but since you didnt have your old xbox anymore this is weird, it could be through your gamertag but the general idea is that the gamertag is not involved i believe.
The WD harddisk you placed in this one, it is not the one you were banned with when you used your old xbox ?

Do you have your gamertag on HDD or memorycard?
and do you use your gamertag in your offline games.. i mean, in espn when you play offline it is under the same name as your gamertag..

If the above don't apply, then the only thing would be your apps on drive E or the box was already banned when you got it..
Other people have files on their c,e,f disk and still play online, so i guess you can rule that out as well.

No, you are banned nothing wrong with you live version or router. The 6 in the second set of Y codes clearly states you are banned. Your dash is just not showing the Moddified Hardware message, but shows the cant find live message (as with so many other banned xboxes)

The X3 Bios Build 1943 GOLD RELEASE is a new bios for the X3. It has live blocking and it was enabled.

I bought the xbox from someone else and it was not modded at least from a hardware standpoint. I got on live at least once with it, so it wasnt banned when I got it.

The bios would have blocked it if I played it with the chip on. It would not let it log onto live, now maybe that isnt working, but that is what I understand.

WD hard drive was BRAND new formatted only with Firefuckers.

I did account recovery to recover my gamertag. I had to call xbox support to get them to change my credit card info because I had to cancel my credit cards after my house got robbed.

I honestly think it may have something to do with eeprom and hard drive. If they dont match somehow, they are detecting it.

I think this is why you cant connect to live.
You logged onto live with the original drive, so MS registered your hdd key + xbox serial nr in their database.
As soon as you switch HDD it has another hdd key and having the same xbox serial means you changed something in your box => ban

did you try with your stock HDD? you might get on live using that one cause that is the HDD they are expecting to find. If not, then they probably flagged your xbox (serial) to be modded and its just tagged as modded no matter if you return it to stock or not.

To resolve I think you need an new EEPROM and that new HDD, possible a new gamertag as well. might help if you unlock + lock again using configmagic.. What i am not sure about is wether MS is using the HDD key or s/n from the eeprom or if they are reading it from the HDD directly.. coz if configmagic doesn't update the HDD settings in the eeprom then those would not match either, yet other people have been unbanned using just a new HDD + eeprom + GT

Let me know any progress you made, but i think we can be sure WHY you got modded.. got nothing to do with using games or not.

Does anyone know if locking with configmagic means the hdd key + s/n is written to the EEPROM???

ok....I just put my stock hard drive in. Nothing else, just swapped the larger hard drive for the old stock. Now, no matter what I get the can't connect message. NOT the message that I am banned. Either they are banning my MAC or they are banning my serial. What do you think? Its weird, the message would make you think it is something network related, but I connected directly to my dsl modem and tried to connect that way, same problem. But I could tell I was on the network. I got ipaddress, dns, etc.

After you do the network test connection in the MS dash, press the 'Y' button - what are the values displayed?
If the second 4-digit number labelled 'Y' starts with a 6, the xbox is banned.

Also, changing the HD back to the stock HD would not un-ban you - the ban is permanent with that eeprom.

quciksilv,
When you say "uses a modded bios" are you talking about trying to connect to live while you have the mod chip enabled ?

I modded my box a while ago and never had xbox live, last night i went out and I bought Halo 2 and Live. I am reading up to find out if i will get banned if i try to connect to live with my modded xbox.

Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction. there are hundreds of posts and it will take hours to read. Sorry, I'm a little lazy

They are scanning hard drives and the simple fact is this wait a few days and they probably will stop for awhile. Everyone is in danger of being banned especially with larger hard drives so just wait

QUOTE (Dugath @ Nov 10 2004, 12:05 AM)
Or... just use your xbox HDD when you use LIVE and when your not just plug in your Bigger HDD.

Not necessarily, and in some cases, swapping back to the original is what will get you banned.  The trick is to leave in the same HD that you used when you first logged into XBL.  Well, unless they scan for HDD s# everytime, in which case if you've ever switched back and forth you're screwed too.

I think the best strategy at this point is to mod your (older, 1.0 - 1.3) box first and THEN log onto XBL for the first time.  That way the EEPROM and HDD S# are "married" in their eyes, and won't ever change.

With newer (1.4 and above) boxes I wouldn't be surprised if they keep track of these hardware marriages at the factory.
