Anyone Been Banned Lately With Chip Off
« on: October 25, 2004, 01:33:00 PM »

So what it looks like to me is that everyone that has been banned lately with the chip off have been banned before and got a new eeprom.

I'm wondering if anyone has been banned within the last little while with there chip off, but have never been banned before?

I have a Maxtor 160Gb hard drive in mine, with xbox live. I haven't been on in the last 2 weeks, and have never been banned. So what I want to know is has anyone been banned in the last little bit and have never been banned before?

Also if you did get banned but have never before, please post if you have the stock hard drive or a upgraded one. And if you do have a upgraded hard drive, what is the brand?

Thanks, I am really wanting to play xbox live, but do not want to get banned/

I've never EVER used live before.  I've never even updated my dashboard and I bought my xbox on day one back in '01.  I'm planning to go online for the first time with Halo 2.  If no one has reported back by then I will let you know how it goes.

Have you bought your Xboxes already premodded?
Maybe our modders are just stealing the EEPROMs and selling them to someone else... It may be the point.

You might have something there, I know that a lot of people that mod xbox's take the eeproms and sale them

Yeah, I still have my stock hard drive, so I think that I could use that, but it would be a pain to switch drives all the time. I would much rather just use my 160GB hard drive.

Damn, good call A.Z. best.   I would never buy an Xbox from a guy who also sells EEPROMS.  I mean, people who sell EEPROM in the first place are sketchy to me--anyone else think that?  yeah, they may help you get out of a bind, but that eeprom wasn't just pulled from thin air, ya know...

But to stay on topic, i've got a modded xbox and have never been banned from XBL.  I play live just about everyday.  but I need to stop coming this forum, cause it's making me paranoid lol

As I said b4, in A.Z.'s topic, I have I friend who has bought his XBOX brand new, modded it by himself, and well... He was banned with the modchip off, and he didn't had XBOX Live Account, he used a 2 month trial...

My oppinion today is that there is not a single point that launches the ban, there are many....

- EEPROM being used in more than one console on XBOX Live!... It is an easy check, same serial number connected at the same time, or you get the serial number with some set of configurations and the next time with another set of configurations... This is my favorite as one that is banning a lot of people.

- Ban using the CPU ID of the Pentium III CPU, or any other unique ID that is not on the EEPROM, maybe nVidia chipset has one as well. This could explain why people are being banned even changing HD and EEPROM at the same time.

- Some hacks of some specific games, specially in the Download Content. Easy to check, easy to ban.

- Scan all the HD is out of the question... But, a simple scan for most common files, like C:\BACKUP..... Easy not? It scares me a lot. It is not being done today, maybe done in a not so far future.

- LPC check if there is anything on there, except for XBOX v1.6.... If there is anyhting in the LPC, well, there is 100% of chance that this XBOX has been modded.... There are modchips that just don't force the XBOX to load the BIOS thru the LPC when they are "off"... But they are on and connected to the LPC bus... So easy to get this one.... I believe this is my second favorite as the reason for people being banned with the modchip "off".

^^^^ You've got a couple good ideas there.

Is the lpc one possible? It sounds very plausible.
