I Trust Shanafan
« on: October 22, 2004, 12:53:00 PM »

I have a X2.2 Pro 4981.06 bios in a 1.0 box with 200gib maxtor HD.
In the past I had a stock HD with my chip and I was playing live (chip off).
Upgraded HD all HomeBrew and Backups on F: Drive.
I have Never been banned.  I have not been on live since prior to 10/15.
I'm reading all this about HD scaning and serial numbers.

I trust your word Shanafan;

Should I/we stay away from live right now?
What Precautions will keep me safe on live?
What is MS doing differently then they have in the past?
What is just flat out untrue (disspell) rumor?

Well i am not Shanafan but:

1. yes i would stay clear of live atleast until Halo 2 is out.

2. The only real precaution that will work is staying off of live.

3.M$ is not doing anything different, They are doing more really.I mean they are    being more proactive in stopping people with modchips.

4.Everything is untrue at this point because no one really knows unless the work for xbox

I will always say, don't use Live with the modchip on, but with all these findings and theories it seems like..

1) Again, don't use Live with your modchip on
2) If you are banned, Live is now banning the EEPROM (as usual) and also the HD.

#1 has always been, but #2 with the HD issue is new. That is the theory now.

So the question is when did MS start taking HD serial #s.

Meaning did they record it into a Database on June 1, 2004. (arbitrary date)
Then on the 10/15 start cross referencing and banning?

Or did they take everyones HD serial from day one of xbox live?

Or do they only record your serial after you have been banned or caught cheating on live (what are Live hacks?)?

Wow, who knows? Maybe so.. I still don't really put a lot of faith in EEPROMs people freely get from the Internet. I doubt the EEPROM they get is the only one in use.

This is MS.  Id put anything on day one of live if not really soon after.  Dont put anything past these guys.  How many antitrust lawsuits do we have to read about untill everyone realises that they play dirty?

Play dirty?? It says in their TOS that they do not want modified Xboxes accessing Xbox Live. How is MS doing new things playing dirty??

These grudges people hold against MS can get pretty lame sometimes..

Well if it was from day 1 it is just a little dirty.

I mean if they had the power to ban a lot of people a long time ago and just waited to grab more market share, subcription fees and live licensensing fees, it is a little dirty.

But my concern is that I have played live with my stock HD then I swaped in a big HD and I have my same eeprom.  I don't want to get banned beuase I upgraded my HD and they have my old HD crossreference with my eeprom and live account.

so i guess the smartxx team was right all this time... wink.gif

do you know if they just ban the HD or also check if its a stock hd?

the reason i ask is i would like to know if you can add any new hd with a new eeprom or if you now also need the stock hd to match with a new eeprom.

I don't think anyone knows at this point.  It's highly doubtful they kept the hard drive serials in a database next to the EEPROM info from the very beginning.  With version 1.6 Xboxes, it's very possible that they could have done that, and if your hard drive serial doesn't match up, ban...

I run a modding shop in Canada, and alot of my machines I modded
are coming back BANNED, and some are soft-modded and others
have the TSOP with a switch and even others have the fancy shit
like Xenium ICE, one with X3, etc.

The common factor in all the BANNED machines is the use of
homebrew software. Even see a machine with no files changed
on the C: drive, that was BANNED.

My theory is XBOX live new updates are BANNING machines with
"invalid" SAVE entrys on the E: drive, even from PAL games or
unreleased games or "HOMEBREW" software like DVD2XBOX, UnleashX, etc.

Any thoughts on this theory?

I Think Shanafan made a good point about eeprom re-sellers.
Where do these guys get all these eeproms from?
Do they work at EB games and rip eeproms of the xboxs in the stock room sell them online then sell the xbox in the store?
Do you think an eeprom seller only sells a one eeprom to one person?

Things like this make it harder to figure out what ms is doing.

Maybe someone with connections to xbins should start dead eeprom database.
Do eeproms have unique Identifyers?

While I understand that modified xbox consoles violate the TOS, its still not in MSs favor to ban people with modded boxes, playing legit games with the chip off. For some people, the option of playing on live is the only reason they buy the games.

I think ILLusions0fGrander have the answer in his Sig! I donĀ“t belive in the HDD serial theory. I think they check for known game hacks (or modified savefiles that the cheater likes to call it).  We know for SURE that the one in the Sig and four more forum members have been banned for PGR2 hacks.

Of coures he did change his Sig while I did write the post! The Sig was something like this:

"SNIPERKILLA IS A PUNK BITCH.. its ppl like him who have now ruined it for all of us...

if it wasnt for retarted rejects who need to cheat on live.. then m$ wouldnt have pursued the matter.

if you want to cheat... go to a free service where your kind roam like buffalo in the old west... wild and free."

I think you are right it is the transfering of save files to your new XBOX
or rebuilt XBOX that causes you to be banned again.

Also all DOWNLOADED content is signed for your EEPROM, so when
changing EEPROM you have to remove/delete all DOWNLOADED
content, and allow your XBOX to re-download it.

I think MS is banning any known HACK save file, from 007 to MA, SC, and
the recent "game" cheating hacks.
