my question is, has anyone been banned that was running a live safe bios?  It's the only way to rule out user error completely.  Bans can occur weeks after Live detects your bios, so you never know how the ban happened.

Has anyone been banned that runs a bios that blocks the live ports?  i do, and I haven't been banned.  If no one has, I suspect everyone ran a live enabled game recently and thats what did.  You may say theres too many people at the same time, but the sale of eeproms would indicate alot of people are doing it ALL the time.

I am using the xecuter bios that prevents banning on my living room xbox. I know it works because I am a idot and tested it out about a week ago and got banned for it. I booted into a modified bios and forgot. (Ava didnt change the front LED color because it never booted) I called M$ and started complaining why the game wouldnt connect, and when I checked the network detection in the MS dash it connected! I didnt realize what the deal was till I ejected the game and it booted into avalaunch! OOPS! Since then I have gotten another eeprom from a reputable member here and was put custom text on my LCD so I know what I boot into from looking at the LCD. Not just the front light. I played battlefront for about a week and lost power here last night. When it came back on this morning, I tried to go to the dash and see who was online and it immediatly banned me. So I know the bios works. (great sh*t)

Although I cant speak for everyone

Well, i don't subscribe to Live, but today i booted up a game for the first time that had a dashupdate.xbe with it, and the HDD kept going for like 4 minutes after the game was already loaded and everything, making me think it might have acessed live and banned me in one fell swoop. Anyone know the IP of the live servers so i can block them in my router just in case?

dashupdate.xbe is on almost every live game. It updates your dash if you bought a xbox 3 years ago and just now going on live.

biggrin.gif those games try to find XBL server befeore doing the search for another Xbox. Think this way; if an Xbox is connected straight to another one, it cannot find Xbox Live so you simply can't get banned. But if the Xbox is connected to the pc first and it's actually connected to the internet (by ICS) it seeks for the XBL servers and reports all the "ban needed" info to the server.

has anybody been banned from live, even thou they don't have an account on their hard drive???

My setup is: account on memory card, plug in when needed.

I have played my backup of battlefront, and still haven't been banned.  Can M$ detect a hacked bios even without a gamertag present?

Yes, cause M$ banns the consoles Serial number and online hdd key. Not a gamertag.

My researches are continuing.

One of them was playing on XBC (Halo 2 of course) and he did not get banned. His console is v1.1, 40GB HDD, TSOP split. He is using EvoX M7 bios.

The other one has a v1.3 and he's using X2 4976.02 on homebrew 31 wires, changed HDD. Banned!

Hmmmm... most of them has got banned for playing H2 on XBC (but not everyone- as you can see). Unplug the internet connection when using some M$ software on your Xbox and the chip is on.

I'm almost sure that the new games spy our consoles.

Leave the d0/LPC area, ppl

Report the game titles you were using lastly, until you've got banned.

Yes, the hdd online kye changes. It's something different than the hdd password (used to lock the hdd).

Do all you people that got banned have a password for you LIVE account?  I do and i have yet to be banned (knocks on wood)  Also do you have the auto sign in to LIVE option disabled in the options of the m$ dashboard?  I disabled mine so that whenever i boot xboxdash.xbe it wont automatically sign me into LIVE.

Your xbox can connect to live without a password. I have seen the dashboard connect and show my firends list without a password. When I try to play a game or look at my friends list in specific, it asks me for a password.

Imagine a FTP server. You can communicate with the server without a username and password. When you enter the pass you get actual access. Im sure live can see alot just with a quick connection.

How bout someone make a chip that emulates the stock bios? Since Micro$oft wants to be asses, Im all for returning the favor and keep em in check about who keeps them in business.  WE DO. More and more happens, and I personally feel like I am gettin f'd in the "a" from this billion dollar business.
