Xbox Live Setup

I have My Xbox on a network with my pc.
With my modded dash I can stream media to my xbox, FTP, recieve rss feeds,
stream shoutcasts, ect.  I turn the chip off and go to log on to Live and my Xbox cant connect.

What is the issue with xbox and a NAT router and a static IP?  Does the xbox need to get an IP from the routers DHCP?  It seems strange that I can only connect with auto detect.  Does the Xbox need some other port forwared besides (I think) 134?
