Cannot Update Xbox Live

Hello I have a slight problem with xbox live. I have an xecuter chip and a 160 GB hd with about 60-70 GB free. I have not used live in awhile and when I tried to recover my account and when it tries to update my xbox it tells me I cannot download with a possibility of not enough memory-yet I have plenty. Any ideas?
