Like mrRobinson, I also just did the 'disable upnp' thing and it worked no problem...(For the WRT54GS router)

That did it for me also

Linksys WRT54GS Help with Xbox Live
« Reply #17 on: October 25, 2004, 10:37:00 AM »

Hi, I am having some problems with this router. I have the WRT54GS (latest firmware) and connected to my Xbox I have a WET11 wireless bridge. I have tried the DMZ thing and the unable uPNP fix but with both I still get the same error. "Unable to find xboxlive." I made sure my MTU is set high enough and the ports are forwarded. I am really out of ideas. This setup was working fine when I had 802.11b adapter.

Also if it helps, I can still FTP backand forth in EvoX with no problems. That tells me the network is working and the xbox has an IP address, its just Xbox live that is being th problem. Any help would be great.

Thanks
David

Linksys WRT54GS Help with Xbox Live

I'm at wits end.

I'm trying to connect to xbox live using the linksys wrt54gs and the MS MN-740 adapter.

I have gone to xbox live support - read and tried everything suggested.

I've done same with linksys support to no avail.

I've even tried many of things that have been suggested in this specific forum

I've tried automatic and manual IP and DNS assignments.

I've done the DMZ thing.

I've disabled UPnP on router.

I've port forwarded UDP 88, UDP 3074 and TCP 3074.

I've updated MN-740's firmware.

wrt54gs is neither listed on xbox live's web site as compatible nor
incompatible however from reading this forum and others on the web, others apparently been successful in connecting to xbox live wirelessly using this router.

On xbox console's connect status it just keeps failing at the last and
final bullet ie can't connect to Xbox Live - cables, IP, DNS are all ok.

I'm wondering if it may be related to the fact that the console has been modded - it has no switch to turn off the mod chip. The person who modded the unit says that still shouldn't stop me from at least initially connecting to xbox live.

Btw - the router is working fine as far as networking 2 PCs; one wireless and one wired.

Help!

George

anyways for the other guy with the same router..try to just get XBOX LIVE set up on your comp. STRAIGHT throught the modem first...that is the easiest way then mess with the router...make sure once you set the setting to unplug the modem from the wall and turn off the XBOX so they can config.

Hey light_k2005,

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to haul the xbox and monitor from the bsmt up to the 2nd floor to do hardwire direct into te modem/router but that's Ok.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey haloisfun,

Access your wrt54gs router by navigating to 192.168.1.1 on your internet browser.

Click on the Administration tab then the Management sub-tab.

You'll find the UPnP radio buttons at the bottom. Choose Disable and then Save.

Hope this works for you - didn't do a thing for me.

Good luck.

hey kicker,

I am not sure but the other guys say i think to use a different ip adress than that of your comp. cant remember if i am right or not but you may want to check that one out...also you should have to lug your tv and monitor up to your modem....dont you have extra ether net cord???

Anyways no i am having a problem...i deleted the stuff a normal XBOX needs to use XBOX live...can i just straight copy them from a friends XBOX if i connect the two???

hey light_k2005,

I believe my router auto-assigns the IP addresses eg its assigned 192.168.100 to my PC thats' hardwired to the router; .101 to my other PC (wireless connection) and .103 to the MN-740 wireless xbox adapter. I think its supposed to assign an IP address to the xbox console itself.

I'll find out whenever I get this thing going.

As far as not hauling my console and monitor up from the bsmt, if you have a 100 ft patch cord that I can borrow, you'd save me the trouble.

As far as restoring xbox info to your HD......I have absolutely no clue.

Well, I tried a wired connection between the console and the wrt54gs router and still the same problem.....

Cables, IP and DNS passed but once again got the "xbox live not found" error msg.

Is it possible that I'm banned even though I've never ever connected to xbl before.

The console is modded with no switch.

Advice please...........

To all who offerred me advice,

We've finally connected to xbox live!!!!

I took my son's console in and had it modified back to its original condition, brought it home, ran through the set-up and voila............connected.

This is using the standard set-up on our wrt54gs linksys router and MN-740 adapter except we had to disable the the UPnP feature on the router (we lost connection part way through one game and couldn't reconnect - disabled UPnP - has been running uninterrupted for several days).

IP and DNS set-up on the dashboard was left on Automatic - no DMZ and no port forwarding required.

Thanks for all of your advice.
