Linksys WRT54GS Help with Xbox Live
« on: June 12, 2004, 03:54:00 PM »

Everything was connecting except I was getting the error XBOX Live not found.

I thought I was banned but I wasn't.

I tried connecting my xbox directly to the cable modem and it worked!

I narrowed it down to my router.  I have a Linksys WRT54GS.

The way I got it to work was by setting a StaticIP on my xbox.

Your Static IP should be something that your router wouldnt assign to anything else.

In which case you SHOULD NOT use something like 192.168.1.101.

You SHOULD use something like what I did which is 192.168.1.5.

Then I went into the Linksys UI and went into the thing called DMZ.

I ENABLED the DMZ Host IP Address, and then I entered in my XBOX's static IP which is 192.168.1.5.

And that's it.  It had nothing to do with my NAT Firewall or anything.  No need to open up certain ports.  DMZ basecally opens it up directly to the internet.

Try it!

Cool, nice work.

I will pin this and rename the topic title so it makes more sense.

This method should also work with other routers that feature the ability to connect both wired and wirelessly.

this is what you do:

first you must NOT HAVE DMZ enabled on your router.  If you do...DISABLE IT!!!

second...U need to go to your xbox and set the configuration to manuel.  Make your IP 192.168.1.5, the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway should be 192.168.1.1.  this is the only section that should be manual.  the other section should be left to automatic.  leave your xbox on so that your router can detect it.

now go to your router and enable DMZ and put in the ip address of 192.168.1.5.

Now go to your xbox and click connect.

That information there is for when your modchip is turned off.

Note that you will also have to copy down all the information from your XBOX in both sections and plug that into your avalaunch/evox dashboard.  if you have your ava/evox dash connect without the DMZ, it will change your settings in your xbox live connection.  this part only applys to thos that have a dual boot xbox.

followed the steps and still couldn't connect. finally went to the xbox live site and checked their router compatibility status. the just posted an alert telling linksys router owners to disable upnp and it should connect properly. after disabling the upnp, it worked like a charm.

Yea honestly I think putting the xbox in the DMZ zone is overkill.  Yes, it'll work but it should work as well by just shutting off UPnP.  And this way your xbox isn't out in an unprotected DMZ zone.  Not like there is a high chance it would be hacked or anything but still... overkill.

got the linksys WRT54G router and xbox and no DMZ configuration was needed. I set my xbox to DHCP in evox settings turned chip off tried to connect to live had to retry a couple of times and then i'm on-also try resetting your modem-also can use linksys 54g game adapter with no problems.

Like mrRobinson, I also just did the 'disable upnp' thing and it worked no problem...(For the WRT54GS router)

The DMZ method was a temporary fix to use before the UPNP problem was discovered.  I have mine off dmz now and i turned of upnp.  Hopefully linksys will issue a firmware update soon to fix this problem!

I'm trying to do an account recovery and i've tried connecting with and without my router hooked up... same problem... what else could it be?  Everything works great.. untill it says "Network Error" "Could not connect to Xbox Live".

It could be wrong settings in your dash to connect to your network correctly.  But you didn't say what you tried there.  If you are connected to the router try setting everything to dhcp... also disable upnp in that router just to be sure.

Yea you are right even some of the routers not listed as live compatible will work on live if you put the xbox in the router's dmz zone.  So it's always a good troubleshooting step.

I've set all the network connection's on both dashes correct (MsDash&EvoXDash) I can get to the web with XBMC and Linksboks.  I've disabled upnp and tried connecting straight through the modem without the router hooked up.  Am i banned (which i shouldn't be) or would it tell me that?
