I just got banned today and didn't have my chip on. I dont know why it happened?

Don't know if this is relevant, and this is probably wrong(so someone shoot me if I am). You said you took the eeprom from your original xbox hard drive and then got banned again? AFAIK, the eeprom isn't stored on the hard drive...you can dump a backup of the eeprom(stored on the xbox motherboard) to a file on the hard disk but it's still the same eeprom. If that assumption is correct, then if you just grabbed the eeprom from your backup on the original hd, then of course you're still banned, it's still the same eeprom.

forgive me if I misread what you did.

Back to the real topic, how you got banned in the first place. Did you have auto-sign-on enabled by any chance? And like one of the other posters, did you use a profile that you use for Live as well?

Ok, i'm confused, so you're saying u can get banned for having a game profile with the same name as ur gametag
And u can get banned if u get the dash update

Why and how

it dont make no sense, surly y'all cant be saying that some-1 with a non modded xbox who use's the same name for a profile and xbox gametag will get banned

I'm getting live in a few days and dont wanna get banned, WHY ARE PPL GETTING BANNED FOR NO APPARENT REASON

If some of u ppl did have ur chip on then u should swallow ur pride and admit it.

It should be noted that yesterday's XBLive update will re-enable autoconnection after it is applied.

The dash update can get you banned with any bios, not just 4983. The 4981-3 bios' are good cause they block the games from getting on but not the dash update feature which can still ban you.

I hadn't played on Live in several months, but when I did, I always did the eject trick first to get to the MS dash so I knew the mod chip was disabled. I recently finished playing through KOTR and decided to check for downloadable content. I made sure to disable the mod chip first. It sent me to the troubleshooter which said my hardware might be modified. What the fuck? The only thing I can think of is that it phoned home when I was playing with the mod chip on even though I didn't access the Live portion.

I edited this reply to add that I just remembered that my HD is the original one so this would have nothing to do with HD size.
