Xbox Live is not banning large HD users who use Live with the modchip off.

So far MS does nothing with it, though that could always change, as we have seen.

The existing stickies contain updated information about everything that needs to be done.  The problem is that people read it (or don't) and decide to post anyway because they are super paranoid (a la insisting on booting from the F drive in the case that MS decides to one day scan drives).  This issue is further complicated by the search function being googlized for long periods at a time.  You can only do so much I guess.

According to the faq, you register with Xbox Live the first time via the data from the original XBOX hard drive's FatX ...

MS might go as far as making xbox live read FatX each time you sign in and see if it corresponds with the initial registration.

No.

The ACCOUNT is meant to be transportable, so there is no registration to HD "bundling" of data on their servers.

Oh god.. no they are not.

And yes, you can not simply swap HDs that are locked. They are locked with the EEPROM of the motherboard of the Xbox it was built with. You need to unlock the drive.

Again, MS IS NOT BANNING LARGE HD USERS. YOU MADE AN ERROR

And if you want an EEPROM, go look at the Buy and Sell board

Any tips?

Sure, get a new EEPROM from the Buy & Sell forum like shana said... it'll be the wiser thing to do. And always doble check if your chip's on.. you never know... we all make mistakes.

Good Luck Bud.

But didn't he say he was using the X2 4983 bios which stops the xbox going on live?

Ok, I just want to get an understanding of the situation.  He didn't get banned from live because of having a large HD.  Correct?  Thats because if people were getting banned on live with a large HD, there should be tons of posts on this site saying "I GOT BANNED FROM HAVING LARGE HD".  And since it's only once a week, it would suggest that the cause is somthing else.

ok, I agree with you for the time being.

What could have the reason have been then?  X2 4983 blocks live so can't have had the mod chip on.

If he don't know why he got banned, getting another eeprom would result in that getting banned too right?

I only ask all these questions as I was thinking of getting live.  Just doing my background research.

Ok, lets concentrate on the idea on how you CAN get banned.  How can you get a XBox banned with an Xbox using the x2 4983 bios on the mod chip?

Keep in mind 4983 doesn't block dash updates which also will ban you.  So that could have happened without him being aware of it.

It wouldn't surprise me if there's other ways of getting banned that aren't well known or haven't been discovered yet.

I got banned three times within about 20 connections before giving up buying new EEPROM's figuring I'll just get banned again. So I wrote a program to try to find out why I was getting banned. It read the TSOP over and over again, making sure that each dump matched up, byte-by-byte, with the data of the original dump. I got my MCPX warmed up and 1000 dumps later and no inconsistencies.

I don't know why this happens. MS could be checking data in hidden sectors on the HDD. Maybe they're erratically banning boxes with changed regions/videomodes or larger HDD's to give the impression that modding is dodgy. Or else the expensive, supposedly "reputable" seller on X-S was ripping me off with the EEPROMs... or maybe someone else using my Xbox and was too scared to tell me they'd stuffed up (personally, I don't use live).
