Problem With Xbox Live
« Reply #15 on: February 15, 2004, 01:52:00 AM »

Hi,

I'm a software engineering student, and I had a similar problem yesterday.

I logged on, got modified xbox error, messed around and changed the dash, xbox-live updated the dash (didn't know banned xbox's could do this).

I have no idea how I'm banned, and i don't see how it could be from live games with the modchip on. I kind of suspect I got banned from corrupt/inconsistent  EEPROM/x-live files on HDD. serves me right for messing around i guess

Anyway since the update the ban arror message changes to xbox-live is no longer found, with WXYZ
0000-000B
0000-F001
008A-0C62
AFFF-0018

I don't know what the codes were back when it said modified xbox.

edit: quoted too much

as far as the yboxdash.xbe i thought it might've been a file from an xbox-live update of some sort, but it turned out to be another copy of evoxdash.xbe, i dunno why the guy had a copy of it on there or why he renamed it or how it got there or anything, but yea that had nothin to do with it. still haven't figured out how i've been banned twice with my mod chip off though, i'm going to uninstall live take a look at all the shit on the hd and fix it till i'm satisfied, and then try live with a 3rd clean eeprom, i'll let ya know how it goes.

I have already told you that yboxdash.xbe does not come from Live. The files on your HD, will not zero effect on you getting banned. All Live cares about, is having the modchip off.

On a side note I was on the phone to xbox and was on the network troubleshoot thing and i was just fiddling with buttons and then a disclaimer window popped up with the message 'PLACEHOLDER'. Kinda wierd

Ok so I just went through my problems about not being able to connect but because my ISP and router aren't "supported" they cant escalate the problem any further than checking my xbox basic connection settings.

I know you had said you're getting a "software/hardware modified" screen but you might have 4981 xecuter bios, http://www.teamxecut.../x24981_xbl.htm. It's probably not the case, but check it out.

shanafan I know what you've told me already and I also know that I've been banned with my chip off twice.

Jackpot the first time I was banned I didn't have xecuter's new bios, the second time I got banned I did ( I flashed it myself so I wouldn't get banned a second time thinking maybe I just screwed up the first time ... which obviously isn't the case, and yes I'm sure i'm banned and have been twice my xyz codes confirm it ).

So like I said I'm gonna give it another go and let ya know what happens. but shanafan there's gotta be something else that can trigger it, cuz i'm 100% sure my mod chip was off when i got banned.

Same boat as you guys with switched TSOP... this is killing me, I have been though 3 EEPROMS now, and at wits end.

Yes I can read directions. No it still gets banned... ZO was nice enogh to give me an extra EEPROM for free, after his 1st didn't work for me...

One thing that I have been thinking about is the MSDash on the C drive came from Slayers, could this posibly be the culperate? Do others that have this problem have the Dash from Slayers on C? or was it copeid from there old HDD?

Just an idea,

im not pointing any fingers, but wat if someone found a way to create a so called "eeprom" generator, that contains the eeproms of thousands of eeproms, banned and unbanned, could that possibly be a culprit of all these problems?

I belive... not 100% sure that the EEPROMS are encrypted w/ checksum info, though it would be very easy to generate bad EEPROMs valid ones would be much more complex.... If any one could verify this.

On another note, I would not be suprised if M$ kept a list of manufactued EEPROMs that was checked Vs. LIVE, although that is just pure spectulation, it could be done w/ ease.

I would like to meet the amazing person who is capable of creating/GENERATING random WORKING eeprom's.

There is no way of creating/GENERATING eeprom's.  There's more data than you know stored in an eeprom.

Each eeprom is encrypyted with a serial number.  That serial number must then coincide with the online key, the UNIQUE HDD Key, not to mention the mac address.

The chances of generating such information correctly is 1/100000000000000000000000000000000000000000  shot.

And yes, I would assume that there is in fact some type of hex check sum byte to check the validity of the eeprom

The ONLY way to get a working unbanned eeprom is simply to get it from another xbox, that has not been banned from live.

Im experiencing a similar problem.  I just installed a modchip a few days ago.  Don't think i connected to xbox live with it on but i might have.  I do know that when i first modded it it booted up to the default dashboard and tried to do the whole auto login thing but i turned off the box right away.  I just started getting the error message tonight.  maybe they are banning modded xboxs in a new way now.  i dont want to buy a new eeprom if they are.

as far as eeproms if someone took some time i doubt it would be hard to decrypt ... i mean viewing it in plain ascii form you can see the serial number with notepad ... so generating a one that's valid but probably won't work on live ( they probably use ranges etc... ) is plausable.

Anyways yea I got banned again btw with that last one so I dunno I might just buy an xbox to play on live since the modded one was free to me anyways and now I have an xbox live subscription that i only use on the weekends on my brothers box.
