NO! I AM HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND CAME TO THIS FORUM TO SOLVE IT! i always leave the mod off when using live, and suddenly today, jan 1st, it wont connect and tells me my hardware may have been modified, but i have never played live on mod. so i thought maybe live came up with a way to check your mod even if its off... i dont know, ive been having problems at step 4 also with comcast..

Yawn.. Xbox Live doesn't ban Xboxes with modchip off.. this has been covered before..

You have a Live Aware game. Read the pinned topic about Live Aware games.

I can't seem to connect either. I get no message no nothing. It just goes to the troubleshooting screen. Once its done troubleshooting it says connected but then it won't go in. It goes back to troubleshooting.

I have a SB4200
I've had XBOX Live for a Month Now with No Problems
I Have a Linksys BESFR81 8 Port Router

I didn't have to do any special setup, just Plug & Play over here. But Comcast has had some recent Network Problems with their own Routers failing, and even I have had outages the past few weeks. Keep up with Comcast Support, until they will start helping you, I have found out that you have to badger them endlessly to get decent support.

Anyways, Wish I could be more help.

That is absolutly ridiculous. Comcast can't go arround saying they don't support XBOX Live since in their web page they promote this "New feature" saying some slogan like "Play Live Lightning Fast" or some similar crap.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that I do not believe the post that said that, all I am saying is that they're crazy. Using LIVE as a market strategy to sell more and then they go like "Nope, we don't suport it".... it pisses me off.

By the way, I have the comcast problem long time ago, and it was the DHCP config on my router, but if you're saying that you're trying to connect directly with your modem and still doesn't work... I have no clue.

I'm in Baltimore MD (at home for vacation), although I usually play from Japan. But I played even this mroning until 30 minutes ago when I got the message that your hardware or software has been moddified.
