Xbox Live Replacement Thread
« on: December 08, 2003, 10:53:00 AM »

Well, I have an idea.

Would it be possible that we could develop an Xbox utility that you could upload to the xbox and replace with live.

I mean 100% seamless integration. That way we can stop our worrying. Also, it can be an independant client to connecting to, say, Xbconnect or XLink, etc etc. Now, we would be able to use Live directly from our games. Would this be possible?

Also, we can stop worrying that "Live might detect the mod chip" or "accidentally get clicked on" because it would just load our 3rd party "Live Dash".

Feedback, anyone?

You wouldn't be able to do it through live. I am pretty sure any connecting to a 3rd party must be done with system connect. Xlink is working on a program like you talk about. A way to connect that is independant of computers. The problem is the lag issues. It isn't going to be proficient for a while.

I personally would just like a chip that when it is turned on by a switch there is no way to connect to live, but you can still FTP into it.

I am glad you could understand that  laugh.gif

the intructions for connecting to Live are in the game, so you would have to patch every Live enabled game you back up to connect to soemthign else, and each game woul dprobably work differently

the best thing to do would be to block the ports on your router, and maybe in the future XBC or xlink can set up a clone of a XBL server and you can reroute the the data (with your router) to point to the freelive server instead of the real XBL

If they code it right, you wouldn't even need a router, just have your XBox use the computer running the client as a gateway. It'd then listen for and intercept the communications on the ports in question (I'm assuming this, as I've seen similar things done with other programs).

xlink kai is going to sorta do that, that is, the no port forwarding through router thing...

however, you will never ever ever see an xbox live replacement service.

as was stated before, it requires 1, reverse engineering the component in the game, and 2. decrypting the stuff being sent back and forth to live. its near impossible.

ok one last effort...

im not saying make it integrate as to where i click XBL in game and all data is converted into Xbconnect packets

im just talking about a different file opening when xbox live is clicked

rerouting a file... is it that hard?

then, once you click Xbox live, you dont actually launch live, elmiminting the possibility of ACCIDENTALLY getting banned

and, we could change this file to, say, boxlink

Yes, all the "big brains" said that breaking the 132(?)GB range for HDDs was impossible, too, but it was done anyway. It probably would be possible to do an "XBox Live Replacement", but it'd require alot of dedication, coding skill, and reverse engineering, along with a good port sniffer that reports logs. It still wouldn't be as good as the real deal (i.e. less bandwidth and speed), but it'd do for people who want to use it and not risk getting banned from Live.
Ultima Online was "hacked" in such a way; a browse through SourceForge.net will show you at least a dozen projects that feature a homebrew UO server designed through observing what, where, and how information is sent to the server. Ditto for Ragnarok Online. Again, it's possible, but not easy at all.
