Live Deleted My Modchip Bios
« on: November 12, 2003, 07:25:00 PM »

First some info...
Xbox 1.0
Thomson DVD
Western Digi HD
Xecuter 2.0
evox D6 grey logo BIOS
latest evox dash

Ok.. I installed live today.  I made sure to backup my c and e drive and also to turn off my chip before inserting the cd.  I installed it and everything went fine, played a couple games and all.  I turn off the system.. turn the chip back on and evox doesn't load.  The grey logo doesn't load either.  So I try a different combination of switches and nothing works.  So I make an evox boot cd (cd-rw) and I am unable to get it to load (which I was able when first installing the cd last year).  So it must have wiped my chip clean..  but how?!

No, Live does not delete a BIOS on a modchip..

Check the alignment of your modchip.

it's soldered on.  It's xecutor 2 pro.

You tell me then what happened to it.  I was playing a backup and then I do the backup and all and right after I install live (never moving the box itself) the chip is erased.  I'm not a n00b, I know what I'm saying doesn't sound right or possible but it's what happened... I NEVER once had a problem with the chip before now and I've had it since it's release.  If xbox live isn't the reason for it then this is one hell of a big coincidense.

Then it is a big concidence. Are you able to re-flash it?

well neither my comp or my laptop can't detect it just like it couldn't when I first got the chip so I'm going over a buddie's house today to reflash it.

Don't waste your time trying to reflash your mod; Live did NOT flash the chip with MS BIOS.

I'd say your D0 is no longer grounded.  Check that.

EDIT:  When you say "neither my comp or my laptop can't detect it just like it couldn't when I first got the chip", are you implying that the state of the flashROM (hacked BIOS, MS BIOS, or blank) has anything to do with whether or not the computer can detect it??  If so, this is untrue.  The contents of the flashROM have nothing to do with it.

I was told by other source that the a high amount of static got into your modchip and deleted the BIOS.

That would cause the Xbox to frag.  The only way it would appear to be unmodded is if the static miraculously wrote the MS BIOS to the chip.  laugh.gif

Again, I vote for him to check the D0.

the D0 is on there fine... this makes no sense to me.  How could it have happened?  What I meant about flashing it was this... when I first got the chip my computer couldn't detect it with the parrallel cable so I had to get someone else to flash it on their computer.

If the mod chip isn't even active, what good is flashing it going to do?

yea it doesn't make sense that it was "wiped".  something happened to it but it wasn't caused by msft.  I would resolder... maybe it just went bad, its unlikely but possible.

I don't know guys... I was just talking to one of my contacts and he said he's gotten about 5 other calls from people who had this problem with their chip right after installing live.  Maybe this is something new...

xeero- I meant I had to write the bios onto the chip

I can't see how anything can write to your chip if you had the protection switch set to Enabled, which I'm assuming you did.  I'm with Xeero, check your d0.
