I have thought that this would be an interesting installment, what with a USB microphone and all... but I think they have gone a little overboard with the $2 pricetag on each song you want to download for Karaoke.

It will be interesting to see how much of this can be ripped and distributed without actually purchasing the content... not that anyone would do that.

Does the microphone plug  into a puck placed into the controller, like the headset?

Yes, it has an adaptor, and it plugs right into the controller.

So any idea if a microphone connected to the XBOX live puck will work the same?

Probable not...

You don't have to buy the songs.  That's only MS's way of implementing their own "iTunes" that enable you to get songs that you don't already have.

If you already have the song, you can simply transfer it to your xbox for some karaoke action without paying for anything smile.gif

But I think the songs you can buy have the moving lyrics on the screen.

Well... the question remains... how about the microphone?  Is it a must for this thing, or will the one from the headset work?

I was singing some songs with my communicator. It works OK.. gotta play with the settings a little bit. I would think the real Music Mixer microphone provides better support.

Well, I have a nice condenser mic... the problem would be converting it to a super mini jack from a mungo 1/4 jack...

I wish I could rent this thing somewhere to try it out.

Well, I picked the thing up this afternoon... and it is really a blast!  It is amazing how it rips the lead vocals out of the songs, whether it be from soundtracks, or right from the CD.  The madcatz Mic that comes with the thing is a piece, and the puck that it plugs into is no better.  No matter how nice the condenser mic that I plug into this thing, you still have to practically swollow the mic to get any sound out of it.

Luckily, I have two of the XBOX LIVE communicators, which work GREAT with this thing.  I don't know why they even package it with that madcatz piece of junk.  Anyone had any better luck with the enclosed mic?

So far, nothing shows up on the download content board.  I guess xboxkaraoke.com is the only source for downloads.
