So I guess theres nothing different that can hurt us with this final update right......just a few added features to complete 2.0 from 1.7?

I still havent updated from 1.0 yet and dont wanna walk into something if they have implented something new since the 1.7 update.

No new features I notice, normally updates like these are patches.

I wonde IF they really are going to implement that feature that MS wrote an article about on xbox.com.

Did any of you guys read that article? where they talked about how with LIVE 2.0 youll be able to have "cross game chat" in which you will have the ability to not only send "Game Invitations" but also "chat Invitations" that will be able to hold up to 16 people. I know for a fact I read about this a while ago, but I dont remember it saying when this feature would be released.

Im going to see if I can still find the article. Ill post a link if I do

I have 1.0 and it will just say something about technical difficulties mad.gif

I had this problem... hehe

a. My wireless router did not support UPnP, since it was the first linksys wireless router on the market years ago, and they are not making firmware upgrades for  it anymore. I went ahead and bought a new one that is “Wireless – G” (does 11mbit and 54mbit) much faster, and fully supports xbox live, with latest firmware.

b. On one of my friends xboxes I kept getting this error over and over, I found it was because at one time, someone uploaded a "replacement" dash because the original one was messed up (or got deleted or something?). From what it looked like, the xbox had xbox dash 1.0 (no live) someone went ahead and uploaded a new dash with xbox live, and for some reasons some of the files where bad, or in the wrong place and it kept giving this error when they where trying to download the 2.0 (1.7?) update. What I did to fix this was, delete the current MS Dash on the drive, uploaded a normal 1.0 xbox dash from another xbox, ran the live starter kit cd to update to dash to add live, then connected to live, and the 2.0(1.7?) update worked fine. So basically it seems the dash that was on the drive was bad and that it wouldn't upgrade.  I tried over 100+ times to get the update to download, and it wasn’t working. It would start downloading most of the time get to the very end, and then just pop up  that error After I put a new dashboard on it, everything worked fine first time threw... smile.gif

Hope that helps!

I noticed this from the news item on Xbox Scene:

QUOTE
...the "Auto Sign-in" option has been removed in this new revision of the dash ... this probably means your xbox will now always connect to LIVE when you launch the MS dashboard. (so I suggest you do NOT go on the official MS dashboard with a modified bios).

This is false. I updated to the 17f14d00 dash and I have an option to turn off auto sign-in. From the main dash screen select the settings menu, then auto sign-in...

Network settings are under the settings menu in this release as well (was under the live menu in 1.0 don't know about the previous 2.0 release)

checked ... you are right.

The information I got seems incorrect then.
I'll update news.

MrSelfDestruct,

First off... thank you for also loving NIN biggrin.gif

Secondly, it appears that cross-game chat isn't enabled, but I'm not too sure.. It just states you don't need the same games to chat.

This is from an email I got from xbox.com yesterday

Voice Chat in the Xbox Dashboard
You can now talk with up to 16 Friends, and send and receive game invites all from the new Xbox Live Dashboard - here's how:
From the main Xbox Dashboard screen, select Xbox Live and sign in with your Xbox Live account.
Select Friends from the new Xbox Live Now Dashboard.
Select a Friend, and then select Invite to Chat. Or, select Add Friend to make new Friends!
And you don't even need the same games to chat with your buddies. So reach out and start talking smack.

Yes. Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i can update LIVE with mod turned off and then turn the mod on and use good old evo x for emulators and whatnot like I have been? Just be sure to not go to the original dash with the mod on.

I think with this new one you can see if other people are "online" even if they aren't playing an online game, like if they are playing Moto GP2  (or a similar newer game) it will say "your friend is playing moto gp2 offline"  and games from now on will have things in them that lets people send you invitations to play other games while you are in a game.

Okay since I haven't got my X2 Pro chip in the mail yet, could someone explain to me what risk I am taking in modding my Xbox connected to Live?  I could understand before that you had to switch your mod off before accessing any Live enabled features but it might connect to the internet automatically?  I already disabled the "Auto-Sign on" feature but is that enough?

Right now yes - disable the auto sign in and you might want to make a practice out of never accessing the MS Dashboard from Evox if you want to be ultra safe.  Just switch the chip off and you are good to go.

Keep in mind that Live technology is constantly evolving so things may change someday.

My question is that if you have a live aware game that is backup to the HD, will it try to access live even if you are running fromt he hd. What i want to know is that if I have my xbox connected to a router, and i have 2.0 dash but when i boot i go directly to evox. Will the xbox connect to live if i have auto sign in off. If not, and i play a live-aware game such as iland thunder from the hd or from backup will it tey to connnect to live. If so in both case you should get bannned. Please somebody tell me it ain't so.

Play the game with a profile that is not your Xbox Live gamertag. The game will not connect to Live unless you tell it to.

Ok it's tellin me that the service isn't responding... it's been 12 tries, tell me it's not because my harddrive has been {altered} beacuse, knowing MS, that's probably why I can't get the update.

Besides, the real fun will begin with Palladium in the PCs. Apparently inter-chip communications will be encrypted, as well as video to monitor smile.gif
