ok update the dash with the matrix in mode 2...then put back to mode 3 after update is complete.  what about these questions I had in another thread?

i thought xbox live 2.0 connects at the MS dash only - not evoxdash...right?

so if you turn on your xbox with thte modchip on it won't connect to live because its not the ms dash...right?

so, basically if you look at the ms dash the same way you used to look at clicking the live tab in the ms dash it is the same deal...other than using any ms dash features with the mod on?

so..if you are playing a backup of a game (liveaware games excluded for now) it will be fine to use xbconnect, xlink, whatever because you will be using evoxdash or whatever dash to initiate the game...

Update your MS dash normally by using mode 3. The second poster means update with the modchip off, which is common knowledge. So, just use Live as you normally would (with mode 3 and ejecting the Xbox), but DO NOT access the MS dash with the modchip on.

Darylzero, that is correct. Do not access the MS dash with the modchip on. And, about the Live Aware games, I think the Live connection from the dash carries over into the game, so if you boot the backup from EvolutionX, you shouldn't have any problems. Or, you could just simply unplug the network cable. But, then you won't be able to play with any tunneling services.

He did mean mode 1 because 1 mode is the test/disable mode, meaning it's just showing you if the chip is aligned correctly, it's doesn't overwrite the bios (unless I'm mistaken) like it does in modes 2, 3 (before eject) and 4.

originally i meant mode 1.  the only reason I say that is because I get a little paranoid on an update like this one so I'd rather just "permanantly" disable my mod until I am sure the update is done and so I dont have to worry about restarting or hitting a power button by accident, etc.
I know what you are saying about mode 3 though - that the update can be done in that mode.

best thing to have is the reset LED to be red when the chip is on so u don't even have to look at ur chip to make sure its off.

Or you can use those color mods so you'll know when you have the mod on/off | green / orange.

So MajestacaL how did it work out.

hi, is updating ms dash possible with other mod chips?

Turn the modchip off to use Xbox Live. So, yes. Install a switch on your modchip then.

Xbox Live 2.0 & Matrix Mode 3

Weird scenario:

Xbox 1.0 with Matrix in mode 3:
1.  I have a progressive/region-free patched dash and a X2VGA adapter which can display the interlaced signal of the old dash in progressive (with appropriate stretching/missing scan lines etc...)
2.  So, whenever I do my dash stuff (besides Live), I can always do it in my patched dash, because the real one doesn't display correctly in progressive.
3.  When I try to do the update to Live 2.0 (keeping in mind that I'm in Mode 3 where reboot = mod on/off), the dashboard says that it needs to reboot to do the update.  Here's the kicker.  The box doesn't reboot (LED still red), but the dash starts to display in true progressive with the download bar.  WTF?!

I haven't allowed it to do that for more than a second, because I couldn't tell if I had really rebooted or not.  That is, I don't see the reboot/xecuter logo/xbox logo sequence.  It goes straight from non-progressive dash (w/reboot warning) to progressive dash Live 2.0 status bar.  Did MS finally update the dash for progressive??!  Or am I screwed?

It's been a couple of days, since I tried this.  Yesterday, I upgraded my legit copy of MechAssault with some new maps.  Any ideas?
