The next big question is what will we do with auto sign in games that will be coming out soon. How will we play them off our hard drives?

Unplug your eithernet cable, change the access to the internet from your router (make the xbox i private)  A lot of things can be done.

I think that few games will REQUIRE XBL to play (like PSO does), but they may very well require XBL V2.0 dash, and should have the option to install it for you.

If it is a game that requires you to log in, then you just use the originial disk.  M$ has won on that front.

It's not going to be progressive scan by just downloading it.  You will have to hex edit it.  I don't have it yet so I'm no help, but I'm sure someone will do it soon.

ok nice , I don't plan on touching the xbox live button ever , so i won't get the new dash and thus won't auto connect to live and thus my exploits will stay working , beautimus.. thanks guys! --Bikr

And you most likely will not be able to play some new games that come out, because MS will most definitely automatically update your dash when you play/install them.  They will not let those software exploits survive, their goal is to make it as difficult as possible so every average person can't do it.  Most people don't want to (or aren't capable) of opening their Xbox so modchips aren't as big a deal.

There are fixes for everything....cracks will be made.

Keep dreaming.  MS can kill all the software exploits without even flexing their muscles.  If the update is imbedded in the game or the game is simply coded to NOT run unless the Live 2.0 update is taken, there is no choice.

Keep dreaming of selling that crateful of modchips.  Oh yea.  Your right MS can stop the software mods without flexing a muscle.  hell I could stop them.  so I'm sure MS can.  In fact they can stop them just as sure as they can stop the hardware mods.  Just like they did with Live 1.0.  Software/hardware it makes no difference but the price so whatever you're trying to sell on these forums about software exploits, people aren't buyin it so give up.

Will new games auto-update your Dash to 2.0? (I mean the games themselves).

Nobody knows that Ridley, but the chances are very high that yes, games will update your Xbox.  They did it with the old update, and the 2.0 update is much more important to MS in terms of making $.  They're almost trying to integrate Live in the dash, and you can bet they want to ensure everyone sees it.

Thats the whole point. We were hoping MS would have made it Progressive so that users with the mod-chip off can enjoy the new Live features by using a VGA box.  If you hex-edit the file it will crash and refuse to boot obviously if the mod-chip is off, and it's not like you can enjoy the new live features, with the mod-chip turned on and a hex-edited dashboard sad.gif  Stupid M$, why didn't they just add one simple feature that would have given me the ability to try out all the excellent new features  sad.gif

Old games only did it when you clicked on the Live tab within the game.  Even then, I think they gave you an option to install or not to.

I think that new games will have the new dash on the disk, but I don't think they will update without your acceptance of the terms/condition/installation.

Most likely, they will give you the option to back out before it installs the new dash, but the game will probably not play until you do it.

It will involve some group work to get past that all, but it will happen... only time will tell, so it is of little value to speculate now.

The main question at hand now, is... are these pioneers of ours going to get banned who are trying all this with the mod off.

We are praying for you boys!

I dont really have a choice, eventually Im going to go on XBL correct, so theres no pointing in waiting a day or two... or is there?

No.  There is no point.  You might as well get the watters tested.  Live gets more valuable every day and if you even think you're gona get on, you may as well get your system so that you can use it modded and use it live.  The best way to do that that works now and that works in EVERY instance of what MS can possibly do in the future is to have 2 hard drives.  Your 8 gig for live, your big drive for for your modded setup.    That's even more secure than an xbox with a mod chip and a single dual purpose drive.

I have the mechassault save on my xbox, i can delete it from mechassualt evox, I deleted everything from my HD that wasnt on it when i bought my xbox.

I had my dashboard back but when i went to get the live update for 2.0, it started to download after a few mins, the error 21 popped up, and now i cant get to my original dash, i still have mechassault save on my xbox so i can change things. I also have my full xbox backed up on my PC harddrive......

It appears that when using the audio hack when you try to press copy you get the message "unable to copy as you have reached the 100 soundtrack limit"

[/QUOTE]

I do not know if this is what it causes. if it is, i have dealt with this personally and fixed mine from doing that again,,,, i used a soundtrack editor and i deleted all soundtracks on my hard drive and then i used the 007 to get to evox , and ftp'd my phoenix like normal, works like normal now.

Once again i do not know if this is even a side effect from 2.0 as to i do not even know if i have 2.0 update yet. i am not messing with any of the xbox live stuff right now.

well just read this post on first page and thought i would say something about it.

Just to clear some things up.

Both of the bugs behind the Audio and Font exploits have been fixed in the new dashboard.  Existing St.db and font file exploits will not work with the new dash, at all, ever.  The process used to execute unsigned code in both of these exploits is not possible with the new dash, at all, ever.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is blatently wrong.

It is possible that there are other flaws in the font or soundtrack management code, and quite probable that there are similar flaws in other portions of the xbox system software.

Personally, I would be suprised if a new flaw were NOT found, within the next 3-4 months, at the most.  Probably much sooner.

In the meantime....

the 007 and MA exploits still work just fine, so all is not lost for soft-modders.

Mechinstaller, from the xbox-linux team, uses the MA exploit to install the fonts exploit on your box.  Interestingly, it also FORCES a specific version of the dash onto the xbox.  This is an older version of the live dash for which Mechinstaller's font files are specifically targeted.  It will even downgrade your xbox from the new dash to this dash, in order to ensure that the font files will work.

So, if you've managed to lose your softmod with the new Live, go grab yourself a copy of Mechassault (it's cheap, now, and it's a GREAT game), use the Mechinstaller to downgrade your dash, install the Mechinstaller fonts, and install Linux.  (All of which is doen in a VERY easy automated process)  From there, you can re-install your font or st.db of choice, flash the tsop, format your harddrive... whatever you want to do.

Dont worry, kids, Live2.0 is not the end of the scene, by a long shot.

Emultors are more mature on the PC and with all that money you could afford a video card with a TV Out port that even the biggest xbox fan will admit produces better image quality.

And what is that supposed to mean anyway? That only "immature" people or kids play emulators on the Xbox?

As someone who's big into MAME cabinets, let me tell you that outputting a better quality picture isn't always desireable since it makes many (especially older) games actually look worse than they did originally. The original games were banking on low-res arcade or TV screens at the time and no amount of filters will make them look like the originals.

Also, I'll never understand you people who would prefer to buy another harddrive and switch them out every time you want to play a game on Live just because you're too cheap to get a modchip.
