What happens when I have live 2.0 with enabled chip.
And autostart a dvd from XBMP using the dash as player?
Will that get me banned?
How to avoid this?

Get an old (pre-live) version of xboxdash.xbe and rename it as dvdplayer.xbe (or whatever) and make evox / XBMP use this as DVD/audioplayer. This way you can also path it to be regionfree. I have it running from F, not sure if it needs any of the other file from the dash though - I still have a non-live dash on c.

Something to be tried by someone with a live-dash!

Thought of the same thing last night, tried it, and when you try to play a dvd it just frags out, even tried putting a a pre live 2.0 copy of the whole of C on to F and of course still frags

Basically they secretly scan your hard drive and will wait to ban you the day before Halo 2 comes out. We are all doomed!

I don't understand what the fuss is about with hdd scanning.
If M$ want to do a hdd scan, they wouldn't do that with a dash update. That would be their servers performing that function and a hdd scan could've been done ages ago without anyone knowing about it. It could be done next week. It could never be done.

Okay... In short:
- Disable modchip
- Go LIVE! and get the update
- When the update is complete, go to settings and disable the "auto-login" option.
- When modchip is enabled: NEVER select the LIVE tab.

This should work for everyone, I guess. Though most will probably use EvoX, AvaLaunch, MXM etc. with the modchip enabled. So I guess
the regular M$ dashboard (v2) will not be visited that often. As in, the risk is even lower.

But here are my two cents:
Why don't we ONLY use a hacked M$ dashboard with the modchip enabled... So, enable mod, power on XBox, use replacement dash like AvaLaunch and when needed use hacked Non-LIVE M$ dashboard. That's the safest option of all!!

BTW: I've got a 40gb IBM HDD installed and ALL non-M$ files are located on my F: drive (I boot from F). With the modchip disabled they could scan as much as they want, they'll NEVER find anything because the regular BIOS has no F: drive support. smile.gif

EDIT:
I guess they could find out even with all my files on the F: drive. How? They could see that my PAL XBox has NTSC saves (and even JAP saves)....  sad.gif

Ok.... If i boot up the xbox live 2.0 dash with my mod chip on but no ethernet cord in, will i be banned?

Do you only get banned if you are connected to the net?

I think thats the only way, cuz otherwise it wont communicate to ms

Acctualy,  I have just signed on to live for the very first time ever, on Monday of this week and was banned before connecting, heres my story;

I have been using several chips in the same system over the past 2 years (xbox 1.0)  and for the past few months for my other xbox (1.2) and I decided on monday it's time to go Live.  Chip disabled...check, Nothing wierd on C drive....check, every thing connected....check!  Well I kept getting the "Unable to connect to XBL"  So I thought maybe it's my router!  So, I took the one I had back to the store and bought a M$ router "xbox compatible" --WOoo and still nada!  So I ran it straight to the modem and still same answer.....well I called M$ techs and what non-american answered the phone had no clue as to what I needed....until he said XYZ...bingo and that's where I found out that the code I saw meant I was banned but how if I never been on live before?  Well I had triggered the XBL dashboard a few time when I was never connected to an ethernet cable or anything.....so, that's to say that it is possble to get banned before going online or then again I may just be a unique case......but when I changed out my Eeprom I was good to go on both Xboxs

That's what i've been wondering.  What stopping MS from finding you have a mod chip off line, and reporting it when ever you do go back online.

sad.gif this sucks i tried deleting all my saves and everything but what originaly came in my e drive and it still said the same. i have never been banned. after i got this message i immediately put in unreal championship and it said it could not connect. not even 24 hours, i made sure that my mod was off during both of these. damn this sucks.

EDIT: i just tried with my cousins and it worked fine, he has the original hdd with only evox loaded as i have a 120 gb hd (locked). man i wish i could steal his eeprom.

But if your GT is on the memcard, and someone accidentally loads up a live tab from either a game or the dash, how will that help you?

I can get onto XBL without a gamers tag.  We all can.

And how is that any different than it is now when you have a modchip in your Xbox?  My whole point was to point out that people are freaking out for nothing and I was merely showing them how to have the new dash NOT access Live automatically.  smile.gif

But I finally realize that no matter how many times you try to put the truth out there, somebody has a "what if" just waiting to be said.  biggrin.gif

Everybody just go ahead and ignore my previous posts and get an ulcer, while I enjoy knowing that I am safe from the Live 2.0 update accessing Live when it wants and it will only access Live when I want it to.  smile.gif

Brienj, I may be wrong but I think you're missing the point here.  Just because your gamertag is on a memcard, doesn't mean the new MS dash won't be able to connect to Xbox Live and get you banned.  It connects automatically, whether you have a gamertag or not.

Um, excuse me, but NO it doesn't if you follow my directions, but go ahead and not listen.  smile.gif

brienj,

Just because you configured it to not Auto-Login doesn't mean it won't TRY to connect. We all know you CAN connect to Live without an account.

We don't know what is built into this dash. In a few weeks when the dash does a windowsupdate style check for updates and you get banned you will be very angry. (if this is there!)

Who knows what they did, Live is embedded in the core of the dash now, just because you say "Hey don't identify yourself as me" doesn't mean it will never try to connect! uSoft is majorly entering the automated update arena, and trying to keep its users in the dark as far as when and how the updates occur. Don't be surprised if this type of functionality is worked into the dash!

It doesn't try to connect, I have it set my way for over a day now and still no connection is being made to Live with the setup I did.  Of course it will try to connect to Live if you go to the Live tab, but that is no diferent than the old dash and because of this, you can't use the new functions of the new dash, but I would advise against it on modded Xboxes anyway.  On an un-modded Xbox, that's fine, which I also do have an un-modded Xbox and I use it instead.

It's pretty funny that the audio exploit solution that won't work if you ever want to play on Live, gets a sticky and the front page here, yet my solution to keep the new dash from automatically connecting to Live isn't.

If you install the new update with all Live accounts deleted from your HD, then turn off auto-login, it NEVER tries to connect to Live.  People that say it still connects, either have an account on the HD or have deleted it since, but originally installed the update with the account on the HD, so of course it will try to connect even with auto-login turned off.

Like I said, go ahead, dismiss what I say, I know it makes too much sense for anybody to believe it or listen to me.  smile.gif
