I hope it is in 480p so we with our XBOXs' hooked up to a Monitor can finally see the Dashboard without a Mod-Chip and patched Dashboard

I think its a privacy issue.  I wouldn't be surprised if some watch dog group is already watching this with a BIG eye.

For all the paranoid freaks, the easiest way to do it is to delete your Xbox Live account in the memory manager of the dashboard, after making a backup to a memory card, then when you want, just re-install Live to the memory manager with your memory card.  Without a Live account on the Xbox, you can't connect to Live.

Well im a newbie around these forums, and im not SUPER into the modding scene, but i do have my box modded, and I have been giving this new dash alot of thought. Brienj here, has a very good point, and i honestly think that it would work. If you deleted your gamertag account off of your HDD, and just stored it on a memory card....when you turn your xbox on, it wont connect to LIVE, no matter how the new dashboard is setup. MS wouldnt connect you to their service unless you have their gamertag. Then whenever you want to play, you just put your memory card in, and login to the game with it.

The only problem that I really see being an issue, is will evox (or whatever OS you got) still even be there when they DO update the dashboard. I mean....for us who use the "no-modchip" glitch in the dashboard to access evox (or whatever), we are completely dependant on the audio or font glitch in order to access that diffrent OS. Well.....if they do infact fix those glitches in the dashboard, will the custom OS (evox, avalaunch...etc) still be there? who knows..... unsure.gif

Schedule for New Xbox Live Features
Xbox Live will be down for planned maintenance at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on August 14 for an estimated eight hours. This is part one of a four-part rollout of new Xbox Live features. Here's exactly what's coming with each part of the upgrade:

August 14
At 12:01 a.m. PDT, we will perform routine server maintenance to keep the service running as smoothly as possible. Despite a lot of speculation in online forums and in the press, the upgrade will begin and end on August 14.

August 25
You'll see a fresh new Web site at www.xbox.com/live. This will include an option for Xbox Live subscribers to use their Gamertags to log on to a special area of the site called My Live. Here subscribers will be able to see their Friends List and the games their friends are playing on Xbox Live.

A few days later, you'll see the birth of XSN Sports, a Web site powered by the same technology as the new Xbox Live Web site. XSN Sports will enable Xbox Live subscribers to create leagues and tournaments for NFL Fever 2004 and other XSN Sports titles coming later this year.

Mid-September
We'll release an update of the Xbox Dashboard. The new Xbox Live Dashboard, called Xbox Live Now, will give subscribers the ability to see their Friends List, see what their friends are doing, and send game invites. It will also display their stats and provide a common place to voice chat with friends before and after Xbox Live games.

A lot of great things are coming to gamers in the next few weeks on Xbox Live. Check it out! And get ready for all the hot games coming this holiday!

Although I doubt the MS is in love with the modding community I would hope that they understand that no one here supports or is currently trying to hack live or play copies on live.  We aren't messing with their business model in anyway (other than some people pirating games to their HDD - non Live of course).  Still this is a small % of total xbox users.  I wouldn't think MS is deliberately attacking chip users with this release (hopefully).  The first time they just had to make sure no one was running unsigned code on Live and they didn't want to give people a bunch of chances to experiment.  We'll see what happens but I doubt they are going to go overboard.

The way my LinkSys router's filter works is, I can filter just a specific port range.  Do XBConnect and Xbox Live use the same ports?  If not, perhaps I could block JUST the access to Xbox Live?

As has been discussed though, simply unplugging the cable (or even disabling 'net access via a router) might not necessarily do the trick, if the new XBox Live scans your hard drive, or if new games scan for a mod chip, and cache it later for when you next connect to Xbox Live.

It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks play out, that's for sure.

QUOTE (Evergreen98 @ Aug 7 2003, 09:13 PM)
A game like Midtown Madness 3 or MotoGP2 is approximately the preview of a Live Aware game. You can be signed in while playing campaign/single player missions, and then Live alerts will pop up if you receive an invite. I doubt a Live connection will be required for these games: not everybody has an available broadband connection whereever they bring their Xbox. Therefore there always must be an option to cancel out of the connection -- although these games will attempt to find a connection with all their might.

Whoah - I'm curious about what you've said here.  I play my copy of Midtown Madness 3 off my HD all the time, modchip enabled, net cable plugged in.  I just avoid connecting to any "Xbox Live" features, and have yet to be banned in any way.

Are you saying that Xbox Live will still try to connect behind my back, without me specifically requesting it?  If so, why hasn't this happened yet to me?

I've imagined for a while now that all future games will have some kind of Live content, or be "Live enabled" -- these seem to be the games that folks are buying (even mod chippers) and the one area where MS has some sort of control.  I wouldn't be surprised if M$ required some sort of "Live" content from all of theirt developers.  But I didn't think it happened yet, so soon, with MM3.

(My hope was that the new Xbox Live 2.0 features wouldn't scan or cache or flag anything, but modchippers still wouldn't be allowed on Live -- and that any and all future games would have some sort of compelling Live content that would encourage them to actually buy the game.  I'd be willing to live with that arrangement, I think.)

Any more info on MM3's "Live" capabilities would be appreciated.  I'd just as soon delete it from my HD.

Same here. I know that MM3 does not connect to Live in single player mode. Why would it anyways?

As for MotoGP 2, when the game starts, if asks for to choose a profile. Of course, the only profile that you see first is your gamertag for Live. If you select it, it automatically connects to Live. BUT, you can create an offline profile for MotoGP 2.

From what I know (I have a retail version of MM3, that I play off the original retail DVD), there's a "Sign In" option from the main menu. If you don't select it, the game doesn't connect to Live. If you do (and select the account, and enter the password) Live will monitor your Friends list and do evil things in the background.

There should be no problem running it off your hard drive though (provided you don't use the Live option.)
