The only real way to ruin modchips and live would be to release a patch every 1 or 2 weeks so by the time someone figures a work around there will be a new patch.

QUOTE (Hitcher @ Aug 25 2003, 03:02 PM)
When I have my chip switched on the IP address is manually set to 192.168.000.001 for file transferring, so there's no way the Xbox can connect to Live with it on.

And why is that?  My laptop gets the same address (192.168.0.1) and I can get on the internet just fine.  There's nothing inherently *wrong* with that IP address, it's an internal IP that gets TCP/IP traffic via NAT (Network Address Translation.)

You would have to specifically prevent 192.168.0.1 from having WAN access if you wanted to be safe from connecting to Xbox Live.

I have to agree with ChrisF. Maybe at the end of September I will have to edit this post tho !!!!!

I don't think m$ will be scanning the HDD for evox, however I do think they will patch up the font exploit. Their main concern if that no XBLers are on live with backups or modified code.

Hell how many on this forum just say they will buy another xbox for live and keep the moded on for Emu/XBMP/Backups ! I will for sure - at £120 on amazon its still cheaper than my PS1 was when that came out (£300 by the way). And remember M$ loses money on each one the sell.

I don't think M$ are all that fussed about what we do offline with homebrew. I would even go as far as to say they are taking a close note on some of it for xbox2 !!

I think that they want their XBL baby to be clean from hackers and cheats just the same as most of us. Don't get me wrong, if a HDD scan did that, then I am sure they would do it. However a HDD scan would not tell them you are running modded code on live, just that you have a modchip that is currently disabled.

Well there is my two pence worth. Font exploit patch, but no HDD scan. I guess we will just have to wait and see ..........

i am wondering if MS will start banning modchip users even if they have their modchip turned off..   it would be possible for them to tell if u have put in a skins directory or if u have evoxdash.xbe or something in C drive wouldnt it??  who is to say that they wont ban our accounts even if the modchip is turned off...  is there something we can do?    any insight????

There are a variety of things they can check:
-other files on C partition
-data recorded beyond the end of the Z partition
-make/model of HDD
-voltage drawn from LPC points

All are residual effects that are visible even with the modchip disabeld (D0 ungrounded).  There is no indication of what MS will implement until it's actually upon us, so let's just wait.

Well i have been wanting to get live for some time now.  and with all of this new stuff coming out i really want to get it.  especially for when counterstrike comes out..   i just dont like the fact that i would be putting down all of the money and knowing that i could get zapped in a second..   we all could..   in an instant..   they could actually put in code that would check our systems when we were offline...  and then let it run in the background for a month or two to store up as many people as possible..  then next time we all get online it would be notified at a certain date..    they could easily do that...  they could catch most of us all at once....   SCARY

Wait until late September.  By then we should have a pretty good handle on how to get around Live's new quirks.

as u all may know xbox live users get an automatic download in a random time in september,

Basically what I need is the rules laid straight out for me, what to do, and what not to do, I've asked this question before but never got exactly what I should do.

For example, should I keep my ethernet cable out the whole entire month of september, becuz it might contain new checks, or what, please help, Thanks!

We do not know yet. Wait till the new dash comes out. But, don't worry, MS will tell you that an update will come, as a message from Xbox Live (like when you got the down time message for the changes in the TOS this month)

I too use the password feature. And I am not very worried, as it says, were just getting a new dashboard. I mean there is no way that they can update out BIOS'. So when the NEW dashboard is loaded up, youll be logged into Live. But if your switch is on, and your starting Evo-X, then how is it going to go on live?

Its always going to be a cat and mouse game, this "new" dashboard, will not only get us all going, but yuo can bet your ass, that newer boxes, will come with this version, making current hacks unusable..

Only time will tell.

Xeero, I have a few UNBANNED eeproms if you need one, get @ me.

The new dashboard will automatically connect to live when you turn your xbox on. This presents a problem to gamers playing games on xbox connect with a modded xbox. As soon as you plug in the ethernet cord your xbox will connect to live... even if you don't want to.

Just to clear some things up...
