Banning And Live Question
« on: July 30, 2003, 08:29:00 PM »

Let me establish a few things:
- I know that xbox live bans xboxes using the eeprom. But lets say you replaced the hard drive and didn't lock it.  Let's just say that you turned the xbox on with the mod chip on and tried to play a live enabled game.
- It would be possible to get this far right?  I know you would get banned, but what would they ban you with.. the eeprom you dont have?

You're confusing a couple of things.  if you swap your hdd, your eeprom is still in the xbox so they could still ban you based on it.  And i know you need a locked hdd to even get on live so i don't think you'd even be able to sign on.

Its just when you do lock your drive so that you can play live with modchip off that key is based on the eeprom, but swapping the hdd doesn't affect the eeprom in any way.

I agreed with mrRobinson. Recently i heard M$ starting to ban MAC address as well so it doesn't matter if you replaced non-banned eeprom from a friends system or not. As long as M$ detects either software/hardware modification on your box, they will ban you.  I have also read that some members have luck running on live with TSOP flashed systems. I think it a matter of time when M$ update another patch of Live software and find out. I guess modchip is safer as long as you can disable and use original game disc. If you connect to live with chip on, you will definately get banned. You don't need to find that out.

banning via mac address?  i dont know where you heard that from but i thing you're wrong, no offense.  it's always been known they ban via eeprom.

by that i assume you mean bios becaus they dont check your hard drive contents at all

they got lucky and it probably wont happen again

so they patch it, big deal...but what are they gonna patch it with?  if your mod is turned off, you cant detect it.

I don't think that you understand...

If you use live with a hacked bios (i.e. modchip or flashed tsop or bios loader) you will get banned. The only way to not be banned is to not use a hacked bios.

If you swap the hard drive that makes no difference to the eeprom settings and in order to play with it unlocked you would need to use a hacked bios which takes us back to the ban again.

Once you are banned it doesn't matter what hardware you change, unless you change the eeprom number it won't even get passed the point of the network handshake, let alone getting onto the network.

yea uhm blackout explained it good. but let me reiterate here...
you DO have to have your modchip off to play live.  and your second statement is completely false as well esp since it is based on a false assumption.

jesus christ, i already know this. i am asking a question in theory...

ok, the thing i got confuse was where the eprom is.  this isn't on the hard disk is it?  that's why noone can answer the question, i lack the understanding of where the eprom actually is.  so, where is it?
