Since I will try to actually handle this intelligently, Live does offer more than XBConnect for example. First, with Live, you get better servers (with less lag) and downloadable content. Live is just $50 per year. And also, BTW, the pro Version of XBConnect does cost money. If you don't like/want Live, you can just cancel it. Its not a service you are stuck with. And, how come you didn't post that PC MMORPG's cost money to use per month? Not all online PC games are free.

$50 is especially good now cuz you get the headset in the $50 starter kit. Better get it before it goes to $70.
