No, I have never dealt directly with M$, but if you think they are an unusual utopian cooporation, get a clue. They are just like any other big business.

off topic:

my sister and bro-in-law both worked for MS in redmond, and i can tell you that the employees there are treated like kings (and queens...to be P.C.). i went inside, and they have a huge cafeteria with any type of food you can think of. the place is really nice, and the employees look like they are always having fun. then again, i only went a few times...

I'm sure Enron employees looked happy from afar too. It's only when you dig deep into their minds and experiences will you discover the damage that being only one small part of a coorporate machine can cause.

Whatever happened to the general rule of thumb that hackers are opposed to coorporations as a matter of principle? I guess hackers have become more politically conservative than I have realized.

I don't understand why everyone is trying to come up with new ideas to play backups on Xbox LIVE.

I mean, once it is accomplished, MS will shoot it down... or worse, just stop making games and cancel Xbox LIVE. Is it really THAT hard to play by the rules for once?

Some people out there only own Xbox backups (no originals... i.e... piracy), and now they are complaining because MS won't let them on Xbox LIVE with their "backups"?

Honestly people, if you like Xbox LIVE, you're going to HAVE to pay for it. If you don't want to pay, then use tunneling software and cut it out with all this "When is Xbox LIVE gonna be hacked????" crap...

Fine with the xbox how it is? Then why in blazes are you on a message board community related to hacking the xbox? Seriously, I don't know what some of you are doing here.

Whatever happened to the general rule of thumb that hackers are opposed to coorporations as a matter of principle? I guess hackers have become more politically conservative than I have realized.

Uh, since when did xbox modding become associated with being ANTI-M$?  Just because i have a mod chip in my xbox,  it doesn't mean i claim to be some 1337 haxor.  It's called piracy, and i'm none of us are going to try to justify it by talking shit about the most successful company in the world.

I already paid for Xbox Live. Now I want to use my legitimate backups of my retail games. Every consumer has the right to make backups of games they own. I don't care what the laws say.

If you look after your stuff you should never need to use this "Backup"

I have many many CDs games and DVDs and they all work and they are all retail CDs the only place I use copys of my music CDs is at work but then I can rip them with media player on to my PC so I dont need them then

Why don't you just play offline with your backups and only use your originals for Xbox LIVE?

Believe it or not, there are TONS of people who play on Xbox LIVE with retail games that don't even have backups everyday!

If all you are doing is waiting to be able to use your backups, you're just wasting subscription time. Just use tunnel software for backups or just take your skills to the next level and actually use the original for Xbox LIVE.

The WORST that could happen is that your original is damaged, and you can't use LIVE anymore (but can still play offline), which is a lot better than not playing LIVE at all...

It doesn't really matter how many people want to bother with making backups, I think there are enough people to warrant consumers having that right. And I hear about people losing or having their console discs scratched quite often.

If I didn't play online much, I would just use my retail discs for online play, but now I'm playing more online than single player, so making backups is rather futile.

hey crusader, u know what ur right, playing backups of your legitimate games is fine, but how do u stop the pirates. if backups become playable on live, how long is it (with xbox LIVE 2.0) before all Live games have cd-keys. then you can play ur backups. but keep the freeloaders off. now u can't argue with that - surely?

EDIT - just read you other posts. so we agree on cd-keys

Good idea, BUT that would open up cheating ability, and cause people to go to Wal-Mart and steal Cd-Keys, and bring upon Cd-Key generators.

M$ would never go for the Cd-Key idea for Xbox LIVE.

MS can suck mine then. What makes them think that their system is better than the system that PC companies have used the past several years to successfully keep people who haven't paid for a game from playing it online? Key generators are useless for playing online when companies keep a database of valid keys and only a small part of the population is willing to buy and sell games just to get keys...it's not like many places accept returns anymore.

Not only could you mod your Xbox any way you want, but you also wouldn't have to put up with M$ scanning your console in any way they want. I don't put up with that on my PC, and I won't put up with it on my Xbox. There are privacy issues at stake here.

i think officially, m$ still own your console smile.gif they have moved away from the tried and tested PC formulae because. this is a console, they are providing a service and they will run it how they choose to. and i say fair play to them. as it's a damn good service. You keep going on about capitalist M$ about not giving them money. well if you were playing legitimate backups of your originals then u have already given them your money so whats ur problem. alsoyou say it is your "right" to play backups on live? well that would be true if m$ had put a dvd burner in the xbox, or to a lesser extent put a "backup game to hard drive option in thier software" but since you have modified m$ code "which is thier interlectual property" then u do not have any right at all to play your backups on live, legitimate or not. go back to communist russia or china or wherever you are from, buy ur games if you want to play on the services that people pay for. m$ don't make you pay, there are well documented free solutions. Stop bitching, when you release a console that does not work in a capitalist manner and thusly release online gameing service, i'm going to hung you down and own your ass with my hacked copy of whatever game you are playing, then 0wn u with aim bots Mwahahahhahahahha

...

sorry lost it thier for a second, anyway if any dumb a$$ gets this working, then it will probably be the end of online gameing for anyone with a mod, hard drive scanning is next, don't force it and it won't happen.

Crusader you really need to step back and look at what wil happen.

I can not wait to you get your XBox live account banned and you should know it will happen. You signed an agreement with M$ regarding XBox live and when you break that agreement you pay the price so shut up and learn that when it comes to XBox live M$ will win always.
