Motogp 2 And Xbox Live - Annoucement
« on: June 08, 2003, 04:30:00 PM »

I backed up MotoGP 2 onto my modded Xbox. When the game loaded to the main screen, it asked which profile should it load. Now, just as a caution, I unplugged my network cable from the back of my Xbox. I selected my Live account gamertag, shanafan, and it tried to connect to Live! Wonderfully, since I unplugged the cable, I got an error saying it was unable to connect.

Now, I wish MotoGP 2 would have asked if I wanted to connect to Live, but oh well. You can have either an online name and/or an offline name. So, for you modded Xbox users using Live, make sure you create an offline name at the main screen.

So, back to the cable issue. I have read, and read, and read again, that even if the cable is unplugged, and you try to connect to Live, it will write to the EEPROM that an attempt was made with the modchip to connect to Live, and will ban you next time you connect to Live. I have stood by my word that this information is false, and so have others. It has been 1 day since I tried to connect to Live with the modchip on (cable unplugged), and I have not been banned. We'll see what the next few days bring, but, I still stand by my word:

Accessing Live with the cable unplugged, modchip on, will NOT result in a ban.

try this: (this is how i got banned... there's no other explanation for it)

play PSO of the hard drive and select your LIVE game tag.
disconnect your cable and sign on.
after 10+ seconds, it will give you an error message.
THEN try playing LIVE (may take a day or two)

i know shanafan is an xbox LIVE expert and he knows what he is talking about, but i just can believe him on this one.

Hmm, select gamertag and then disconnect cable? Sounds backwards to me

or you can just disconnect the cable before you start playing the game.

but when you select the gametag, i don't think it connects you to LIVE until you actually select "PLAY LIVE"

I had the same issue with MotoGP2, but I didn't unplug my cable. I got an "error updating XBOX Live". I believe that is because I am using EvolutionX and it couldn't find my MSDash. Either way, I thought I was banned for sure, it has been about 2 weeks and I am not banned. Guess I could ust be lucky. I have learned to unplug my cable from now on though.

well that's good. maybe i just had bad luck...
i still play PSO with my LIVE gametag offline with the cables plugged in and
i'm still not banned. after you put in your LIVE code, some games connect you
automatically and so do not, right? i know PSO doesn't.... but what about others?
i don't want to get banned again smile.gif

Yes, I believe this to true. But, with the two earlier posts here, one must still wonder and experiment

Fortunately, the pulsing communication tower froze, and i qucikly unplugged the cable, reflashed the EEPROM with a backup, and have been ban-free for around 15 mins now.

Yeah, and? Flash your old EEPROM and see if you are banned.

FYI, I am still unbanned.

Sorry to add another such lame question but i was looking through the files in motobp2 and saw a file called dashupdate.xbe Anyone know what this is and when exactly it executes?

Is this the infamous file that flags your eeprom?

I dont know how anyone could believe you could be banned by trying to connect to live without your cable plugged in. Its impossible, it doesnt even detect a connection to start up so even if that was were they flagged your bios on connecting it would have to atleast detect a Connection first before it could check for bios.

Exactly. That is what I have always thought. But, when people say they did the same thing, and they were banned, I want to test it out myself  wink.gif
