Us Xbox - Live In Uk, How Do I Xbox Live?
« on: April 20, 2003, 04:31:00 PM »

The servers are used for authentication of your account rather than hosting the games, as I understand it. As PAL users in Australia are using both the PAL UK and NTSC US kits to get on live, I imagine NTSC users can use the PAL UK kit too. I think they are actually identical?

You can get on any where on any kit... As long as you put in an adress in a country that has xbox live... I put in good ol' beverly hills 90210... worked a charm...

OK,

So from what you guys are saying, I should be able to do the first, i.e. use my US machine with NTSC games with UK kit on the UK xbox live servers.  That would be great, I could even register with my real UK address.

However, I thought I had read somewhere about some users reprogramming eeprom to PAL (or NTSC if they had PAL and wanted to use US) and I had presumed that this was because they got banned for using a different region machine to the live servers they were using.  Still a bit confused about this.

When people got banned for using Live with their modchip on, they can get an unbanned EEPROM to get back onto Live. If a user has a NTSC Xbox, and a newly acquired PAL EEPROM, they would have to change the region on the EEPROM. That is it.

OK, all clear now.  Thanks guys.

Out of interest shanafan, why do you use a separate Xbox specifically for xbox live.  What's the advantage if all the above is true? (apart from not having to remember to switch the modchip off).

In case MS thinks of a new way to ban modded Xboxes. I had the extra money and figured why not

And, having another Xbox is awesome for LAN play

Just to confirm, you could always change the region back to PAL if you wanted to play other games like GR on Live?
