Just a question...  With a modded xbox and a 60GB HD for example...

You say we can disable the Modchip and play on live but af far as i remember the 60GB HD won't work with the original Bios ???

Or is there a trick i'm not aware of ???

i believe as long as the drive is "locked" then it will work with the original bios just fine.

ok cool, thanx for the info...

Just to be sure then, I have a 1.0 Xbox firstly fitted with an XTender Chip... Initially i couldn't change my HD with that MOD so I put a switch on the Xtender and flashed the XBOX TSOP with an evox bios to enable HD SWAP... But now that it's done i could use my 60GB (LOCKED) with my Xtender... is that right ???

How much is the switch and easy to fit?
How does it work as do i have to open me xbox each time! ?
or can it stick out some how ? ( any one hav a pic )
i Also heard u cant play a backup game even with the switch off as MS can tell if ur not running a REAL game.
Also i was told i have to buy xbox live then pay £35 a yerat to MS.
( p.s. Is PSO [ Phanstay online 1 and 2 is it good online many ppl e.tc. ?] )
Any help wud be great cheers  beerchug.gif

Installing a switch disables the modchip so you won't have to open the Xbox to turn it off or on when you want to use Live.

Yes, you of course can't play a backup game when the modchip is switched off. When the modchip is off, the Xbox is in "normal" state.

As of right, buying the Xbox Live Starter Kit gives you a full year of gaming. No word yet what happens after that year.

mitsu50, if it says "Xbox Live not found", then you are banned

yes it says that sad.gif

when i first start the xbl it says a network connection could not be created, then it gors to the motions of connecting, and then the bad news....

I dont know how this could have happened????

Mitsu50:

I'd be curious to know if you figure out how it happened too... I have a similar setup (Xecutor mod and switch, 120 GB locked HD.)  When I go Live I turn off the mod chip and plug  in the network cable, when I want to play backups and homebrews I turn the mod chip on and unplug the network cable.  I'd like to know what else I should look out for, cuz it sounds like you do the same yet still got banned.

Thanks for any feedback.

(I read your comments in this thread about Splinter Cell's new downloadable level -- is it possible this had something to do with it... forget to unplug your network cable perhaps?  Or did you try to download content with the mod still switched on?)

it must have happened on some drunken night, playing mech assault or unreal, i just cant be sure. smile.gif

there aren't any extra checks the xbox does, as this has been confirmed, i'm sure.

As far as the Splinter cell, i never hit the d/l tab with the mod enabled.

Well I was chatting with a buddy who got banned too.  Here's how it happened to him:

He was using Xbox Media Player, his mod chip was on (obviously) and his network cable was plugged in.  He hit the wrong button, got sent to the original Xbox Dashboard.  According to him, the Xbox dashboard checks for mod chips, and flags your "mod status" so that the next time you connect to Live, it tattles on you.  So he got banned.  Simply by being in the Xbox dashboard with the mod chip enabled.  He didn't try to connect or initiate any "Live" activity.

I know my current setup only boots to the original Xbox dashboard when the chip is OFF, but there seems to be a few places in EvoX (and my installed homebrews) where it might dump me into the Xbox dashboard.  So I tread lightly, as I get to know the terrain better.

Sorry but that is untrue. I use the MS dashboard on my modded unbanned Xbox all the time and I haven't been banned. Has been like 3 months now.

Shanafan, please answer my question. I was curious to know why config magic can lock my hard drive with a different password and yet still have it work with my xbox with mod-chip disabled. I used configmagic on a new hard drive that I purchased and had it lock the new drive. I had already prepped the drive with evox and after that I used configmagic to lock it so I could use my xbox w/chip disabled and on Live. All the mac, serials and online keys are the same, just a different locked hard drive pass? Why does this work? Doesn't XBL use the locked key as part of the mod check?

I have previously locked a different hard drive in a different xbox with identical lock codes using hddlock on the pc. This way seemed more secure to me? Is it or am I just worried, mislead or confused?

Your HD's password is not the same as the HD key. There are both different things.

shanafan, thank you. In that case, is it okay that my Hard Disk key is different on my new drive than the key that was on my old drive? I thought the Xbox used the key as some sort of method that had to match to lock and unlock the drive. How does my Xbox know the key and find that key acceptable to my new hard drive. I thought my Xbox only accepted the key to my old Hard Drive. My Xbox can now use either hard drive fine. I can switch them back and fourth with no problems. I just don't understand how because they have different keys. I can't just switch my xbox hard drive with another xbox hard drive because of the different keys; right? So why does it work in this instance?

Yes, bottom line is when swapping HDs between Xboxes, make sure the HD you put in the other Xbox is unlocked. If the HD is locked, then it won't work on the other XBox.

So, unlock the HD, swap it into the other Xbox, and then relock it using that Xbox.

If your modchip and its BIOS supports HD swapping, then you are good to go. Just remember any unlocked HD will work in ANY modded Xbox that supports HD swapping.

Just use Configmagic for your un/locking needs.
