The filename of the BIOS tells what is being searched for first. Most common are yboxdash.xbe or evoxdash.xbe

It will tell you in the BIOS's filename.

I installed my chip by following tutorials and searching the forums..........some research just needs to be done, it's not as easy as a PS1.

To change the modes on the Matrix, you have to open up the Xbox and get inside. It's easy, but its easier just to install external switches on it to change modes. So, you can just flip the switches on the side of the Xbox.

Here is the idea of modes

Mode 1: For alignment purposes, and also complete disablement of the modchip
Mode 2: Modchip always on
Mode 3: Modchip on when Xbox is powered on, off when reset is pressed
Mode 4: Write mode, for purpose of flashing

Check out www.xodus-chip.com. Its had a PDF of the Matrix manual. It tells a little more about the modes and it has pics too of the modchip.

Yes, just leave the Matrix in mode 3 and you will be fine. That is what I do now, and I just switch to mode 4 to flash the BIOS whenever a new version comes out. Then I put it back to mode 3 when that is done.
