Funny how I read the tutorials and never have had any problems. But oh well, I guess we all can't be that smart.

The tutorials are very user friendly sashok. You say the one says make a boot disc for the modded dashboard? Are you sure you read it correctly? Do you want boot EvolutionX instead of putting it on the HD? What are you trying to do?

Another tutorial says something about mode 3 with matrix? At least be more clear with what you want to get from that tutorial. What are you trying to do?

The best modchip IMO to play backups and use your system on Xbox Live is the Matrix. You have to flash the modchip with a BIOS when you get the chip, or else it will not work.

Once you have it flashed and aligned properly in mode 1, set the Matrix to mode 3. In order for you to know mode 3 is working properly, it is best to get a colormod BIOS. A colormod BIOS will change the color of the opening intro screen of the 'X'.

So, when you power your Xbox on, you will see the colormod. When you are at the EvolutionX dash or even the MS dash, load a game or a hombrewed program, and when it is running, press the eject button. The original BIOS will load and you will see instead the normal green X logo meaning the original BIOS has loaded and you will be fine to play on Live with original games.

BTW, the new EvolutionX dash will show 'Matrix Inside' at the opening intro screen of your Xbox when it boots, in place of the standard MS logo. When you use mode 3 and the original BIOS is loaded, you will see the MS logo. Again, proving the original BIOS has loaded.

You align the Matrix in mode 1, so you will see it go from red to green, green meaning its aligned properly. However, mode 1 disables the modchip. Once you have it aligned, you switch it to mode 3.

that's one reason.  easy external switch building.  bigger bios, or multiple bios, and also, it's cheaper.

umm i didn't say this.  i said that i liked the matrix.  i'm probably not gonna get a x2 :-P.  and shanafan, even opinions can be bad .

Question regarding the newer bio images and xbox..

Are all the bios now ybox incorporated? ie in other words it does not rename your original xbox .xbe anymore?

If I load one of the newest dashboards onto the xbox (like 1.8.3285) with say evox d.6.blue that will make it all good to go yes?

Just a little confused on what the newest bios look for on the c:\ drive first.  To work around XBL are all the dashboards, iso boot disks, and bios flashes doing the same thing?

Thanks again in advance, just trying to straighten out my confusion before I dig in. Since I do not have XBL yet, my files are not updated for it so I want to make sure they are on there when I do use XBL.
