there's no problem in trying something like this.  it is MS afterall, but when i see all these posts where people are talking about how it should definitely work, it just pisses me off.

muhaha.gif I knew it was flawed but I wanted to prove it because then no more questions would be asked about it.....
The xboxdash.xbe is signed while the default.xbe (ripped ct3) is not. That's all there is to it.....
The weird part is when I tried this with modchip on the default.xbe for ct3 didn't even try to boot aswell. Only boxplorer worked. That's weird......Anyways I know It was a waste but who knows w/ all of the diferent bioses out there....

and now you mention a bios as in a modchip.  yes.  you can rename ANY xbe file to xboxdash.xbe in your c drive and it will boot.  that is, as long as you have a different bios.  (ie. modchip).  that's a contradiction of earlier posts.

QUOTE (Aspect @ Jan 1 2003, 05:42 AM)
Wont work for a few reasons.  First, when you remove an XBE from its disc, and plop it down onto your hard disc, its not going to run.  Only after you set the flag to allow it to boot from the hard disc will it run with a mod chip.  Without a mod chip, the signature will be incorrect (due to setting of the HDD flag) and the game will not boot.  It cant be done.

There are two ways to play your "backup" *cough* warez *cough* games on xbox live.  First, would be to bootstrap a cracked bios into memory and execute it from there hoping that xbox live will think that the normal bios in its normal memory region is good.  The next way is to emulate the DVD drive.  Andy is working on such a device.  Parata (http://www.warmcat.c...sop/parata.html) will emulate any ide device.  So, if you make the drive think theres a correct disc in, the xbox should let that "backed up" game onto live.

Did I lose anyone?

Aspect - What's the point in emulating the DVD drive if the program that does it won't run with the mod disabled...

ArMaGeDdOn - if you don't like it, go start your own board and get nothing accomplished because you're afraid to try things and you seem to think you know all, but there are always holes and flaws that will allow things to work, and not to work, which you DON'T always know about.

The reason he was against it is because the idea was flawed. Yes, it is good to try things, but the idea has to seem logical.

as i mentioned in my post above, it's good that at least people are trying it.  but i hate people that create completely false hope for others!

Other people can still gather from flawed ideas and improve upon them.

As for shanafan and armageddon, I don't see how it isn't logical, how was I or anyone else supposed to know that you can't have another file as the dash.

Let's say that you have an X-ecutor1 and your EvolutionX dash is xboxdash.xbe. When you switch your X-ecutor1 off, does EvolutionX, let alone your Xbox, still boot? NOPE

I wish Opjose was here...

what if you where to upload Boxplorer as your xboxdash.xbe,
couldn't that load as your main dash with you modchip off, and use that to browse for game files you wanted to play?

Well of course not, that's not digitally signed, what the point of this was, is that the games ARE 'signed'........

Then going by logic, backups on CD should work without a modchip...
