No. It is not possible to use Xbox Live with backups. Doing so will result in your Xbox being banned from Xbox Live.

Also, your modchip must be DISABLED when you use Xbox Live, or you will be banned.

So, no, you can't play backups or even have your modchip on when playing on Xbox Live. Hope this info helps.
