Been Having Issue With Fragging!
« on: May 19, 2004, 07:30:00 PM »

Well as posted here:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=214765

I have also been reading this tutorial:
http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/lpc-diag.php

Well I took out my multimeter and got my v1.1 xbox booted and compared them to a friends v1.4 xbox and here is what I came up with:

Pin:     v1.4:       v1.1:
1    -   0.30        0.00
2    -   0.01        2.31
3    -   5.11       5.14
4    -   3.31         3.31
5    -   3.31        2.64
6    -   3.26         3.33
7    -   3.31         3.33
8    -   3.27        2.57

As a comparison  you can see that I do have some low voltages. So what I am wondering here is if I would trace the point to another spot on the board, then solder a wire from that part of the board to the point on the chip would that give me the voltage that I need?

On the LPC points I have pulled out the little solder spot (not the actual trace, just on the LPC point (also only on a couple))

Just please reply if you have any idea or way of helping me out. Thanks!!

NO!

You may either bypass something "important" or exacerbate the situation. Besides the "fault" will still be in place so to speak.

You need to find out WHY those readings are low to begin with.

E.G. test with the chip removed, test with the drive disconnected, etc. etc. until the voltages seem to go back to within norms.

So how exactly will I be able to get the voltages back up to what they should be?? Do I have blown resistors and such?? What can I do to trouble shoot??

I'm surprised no one from xecuter helped when you posted in that forum.

Pin 1 is 0.0 V?   It's a clock pulse.  I don't think your meter will be able to measure that very well so it's around 0 V.       I think pin 2 might be the problem.  It's supposed to be ground and you had 2.31V.

What happens when you jumper pin 2 to another ground point - like one of the  mounting screws?  (I assume you have the mobo mounted in the case and screwed down for chassis ground)

What did you do for LFRAME#?   You originally measured pin 3 around 5V.  It's supposed to be 3.3V, right?

Well I mean the pins from the chip itself not in the actual order on the mobo.

from the chip to this pic
(IMG:http://www.xbox-scene.com/imageserver3/lpc-diag/lpc.jpg)
the pins would be:
Xecuter:____LPC:
---   1-----------1
---   2-----------3
 --- 3-----------6
---  4-----------7
---  5-----------8
---  6-----------9
---  7-----------10
---  8-----------11

In your post in the xecuter forum, you said the mod chip was an xecuter 2.3 lite, and you were installing it in a 1.4.  Is that correct?

You also said you were using the pogo pin adapter.   I have not worked with the pogo pin installs.   I'd suspect that first, though.   I suggest soldering it in, instead.
Get some header pins, or just solder the wires directly to the LPC, and the D0 point.

Also this begs the question...

What did you do to get the voltages back to normal?

I am trying to put the chip in a V1.1 xbox. It use to have the wire install in it (which is what I am trying to do right know) and I was switching it to the pogo pin install (since I am getting the SmartXX this week) and I turned the box on and with the pogo pins it sat there and fragged. So I took out the wire install and then I put in the wire again (so it was like it was before) and it still does the same thing and so I got to reading and then I checked the voltages and noticed that mine were a little low on the v1.1. So i took my friends v1.4 from him and compared the voltages from his to mine. So thats were I am at.

The way that I got the voltages back up was to trace the LPC point back to a different spot on the mobo. Then I soldered a wire from that point to the chip. So I am pretty sure that everythign is right on that part.

Now I just need to find and alternate point for pin 1.
Thanks!!!

Look at the threads for the LPC mods for the other versions of he Xbox.

This might give you an idea, as the LPC points and the points "next up" from them electrically are diagrammed.

A few people have posted quite good diagrams for the points.

Could you direct me to any? I can't search LPC since it has to be 4 or more letters.
